{"id":333960,"date":"2025-08-10T20:04:15","date_gmt":"2025-08-10T20:04:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/333960\/"},"modified":"2025-08-10T20:04:15","modified_gmt":"2025-08-10T20:04:15","slug":"greenock-artist-jacqui-mckeown-brings-solo-show-to-wyllieum","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/333960\/","title":{"rendered":"Greenock artist Jacqui McKeown brings solo show to Wyllieum"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n  Jacqui McKeown, exhibiting as Angie Gun, has brought Low Brow to the upstairs gallery at The Wyllieum.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The colourful collection is full of big and bold pieces, themed around everything from dancing and gossip, to Elvis and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.largsandmillportnews.com\/local-news\/millport-news\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Millport<\/a>.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Jacqui (Angie), 55, describes Low Brow as a \u2018celebration of Jesus, mince, and drinking\u2019.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  She added: \u201cMy art is all big and eye-catching and in your face.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cIt get my ideas from looking at a lot of art, and I\u2019m really inspired by music and just talking to people.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cI love visual jokes. The ideas just come to me.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <img   style=\"width: 100%;\"\/>(Image: George Munro) <img   style=\"width: 100%;\"\/>(Image: George Munro) Jacqui, who is a huge fan of Prince, studied film and photography at the University of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heraldscotland.com\/politics\/westminster\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Westminster<\/a> in the 1990s and lived in London for 14 years.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  She became really interested in movement and the body and started teaching Pilates, which she still does today in her studio in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greenocktelegraph.co.uk\/local-news\/greenock-news\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Greenock<\/a>.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  In 2019, Jacqui decided to revisit her artistic roots and start painting.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  She added: \u201cI feel like I\u2019ve reclaimed a bit of my identity and creative roots.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cYou don\u2019t need permission from anyone to paint and you can do what you want.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cI\u2019m really creative with my Pilates teaching too and that involves a lot of problem-solving.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Jacqui enjoys trying out different artistic styles and paints on canvas using acrylics, often using gemstones and different textures.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Some of her art is displayed in her Greenock west end home, which made it through to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greenocktelegraph.co.uk\/news\/25238208.inverclydes-best-home-jackie-mckeowns-esplanade-property\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">final eight of Inverclyde\u2019s Best Home competition<\/a>.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Jacqui secured the spot in the upstairs gallery at The Wyllieum after contacting CEO Willie Sutherland.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  She said the autobiographical show has prompted a great response from the public.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <img   style=\"width: 100%;\"\/>(Image: George Munro)Jacqui, and her alter ego Angie, have a clear message for anyone considering tapping into their creative side.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  She said: \u201cI started to do this a bit later on in life.\u00a0I am doing this 30 years later than I expected to be.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cIf you want to do something, just do it.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cIt doesn\u2019t matter if anyone sees it or if it sells; it\u2019s good for your brain.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <img   style=\"width: 100%;\"\/>(Image: George Munro) Wyllieum CEO Willie Sutherland said: \u201cWe are delighted to be showing Jacqui\u2019s work.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cHer sense of fun and irreverence is right at home here, and our visitors are really enjoying her exhibition.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Low Brow will run in The Wyllieum until August 31.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Jacqui McKeown, exhibiting as Angie Gun, has brought Low Brow to the upstairs gallery at The Wyllieum.
