\n The opening night on Thursday, July 31,\u00a0drew a large turnout, with visitors exploring the series of oil paintings and sculptures that use pigeons as recurring metaphors for safety, belonging, and stillness.\n<\/p>\n
\n \u201cMy goal is to always quietly reach into people\u2019s subconscious and draw out their hidden fears and emotions,\u201d Lily said.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n
\n \u201cLife inspires me. You can\u2019t have life without death, just like you can\u2019t have light without dark, or calm without a storm.\n<\/p>\n
\n “I like to juggle both aspects in my work, the melancholic and the serene, but I like to juggle it subtly, because these topics are scary.\u201d\n<\/p>\n

\n \u201cFor this body of work, I\u2019ve used pigeons as metaphors to reflect our own personal longing for a place to call home,\u201d she said.\n<\/p>\n
\n She credited the team at Prism Contemporary, in Lord Street West, for making the preparation process easier than expected.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n
\n \u201cThe curator, Emma, has a great vision, and it was super easy collaborating with her.\n<\/p>\n
\n “I just let her do what she does best and she curated the space and my work beautifully.”\n<\/p>\n
\n She\u00a0also thanked Lydia for communications and invites, Devon for graphic design, and Jack for photography.\n<\/p>\n

\n “The turnout was overwhelming and seeing everyone enjoy and critique my work was the best feeling ever.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n
\n “There were a lot of different interpretations floating around and that\u2019s exactly what I wanted from people.\u201d\n<\/p>\n

\n \u201cThis is my first solo exhibition, and I wasn\u2019t sure what to expect, when actually, everything is OK! Regardless!\n<\/p>\n
\n “Next time I will have more faith in myself and my practice.\u201d\n<\/p>\n
