{"id":334565,"date":"2025-08-11T01:44:11","date_gmt":"2025-08-11T01:44:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/334565\/"},"modified":"2025-08-11T01:44:11","modified_gmt":"2025-08-11T01:44:11","slug":"prominent-al-jazeera-journalist-killed-in-israeli-airstrike-on-gaza-israel-gaza-war","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/334565\/","title":{"rendered":"Prominent Al Jazeera journalist killed in Israeli airstrike on Gaza | Israel-Gaza war"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">A prominent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/media\/al-jazeera\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" data-component=\"auto-linked-tag\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Al Jazeera<\/a> journalist who had raised concerns about being killed has died in an Israeli airstrike.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Anas al-Sharif, known for documenting the release of hostages and for removing his body armour after a ceasefire, was killed while inside a tent for journalists outside al-Shifa hospital in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/gaza\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" data-component=\"auto-linked-tag\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gaza<\/a> City along with three colleagues.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cOur colleagues at Al Jazeera Arabic report that journalists Anas al-Sharif and Mohammed Qreiqeh were killed along with camera operators Ibrahim Zaher and Mohammed Noufal in an Israeli strike on Gaza,\u201d said Al Jazeera.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">The Israel Defense Force confirmed the strike, claiming the reporter had \u201cserved as the head of a terrorist cell in the Hamas terrorist organisation and was responsible for advancing rocket attacks against Israeli civilians and IDF forces\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">In July, al-Sharif told the Committee to Protect Journalists that he lived with the \u201cfeeling that I could be bombed and martyred at any moment\u201d. He was widely known for his coverage of the war in Gaza, particularly his reporting on the release of Israeli hostages captured by Hamas.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">In January this year, after a ceasefire between Hamas and Israel, al-Sharif drew widespread attention when, during a live broadcast, he removed his body armour while surrounded by dozens of Gaza residents celebrating the temporary halt in hostilities.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">A few minutes before his death, al-Sharif posted on X: \u201cBreaking: Intense, concentrated Israeli bombardment using \u2018fire belts\u2019 is hitting the eastern and southern areas of Gaza City.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">An Al Jazeera journalist in Gaza, Hani Mahmoud, said: \u201cThis is perhaps the hardest thing I\u2019m reporting about the past 22 months.
