{"id":335308,"date":"2025-08-11T08:55:16","date_gmt":"2025-08-11T08:55:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/335308\/"},"modified":"2025-08-11T08:55:16","modified_gmt":"2025-08-11T08:55:16","slug":"harvey-willgoose-mother-says-sons-murderer-needs-to-be-made-an-example-of","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/335308\/","title":{"rendered":"Harvey Willgoose mother says son\u2019s murderer needs to be \u2018made an example of\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>But Caroline Willgoose said she also believes the 15-year-old \u2013 who was found guilty last week of murdering Harvey, also 15, with a hunting knife at All Saints Catholic High School in Sheffield \u2013 needs to be \u201cmade an example of\u201d when he is sentenced in October.<\/p>\n<p>Appearing on ITV\u2019s Good Morning Britain on Monday, Mrs Willgoose was asked by Richard Madeley: \u201cWhat are your thoughts about the boy who did this?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She said: \u201cI feel sorry for him. Because I think he\u2019s been let down. I think Harvey\u2019s been let down.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis shouldn\u2019t have happened. There were so many red flags.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey must have known what he was like when his mum said that he\u2019d took an axe in to school.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Madeley asked Mrs Willgoose what she believed the sentence should be when the defendant returns to Sheffield Crown Court on October 22.<\/p>\n<p>She said: \u201cI think he\u2019s got to be made an example of.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And she said she believe the judge should lift the order which guarantees the perpetrator\u2019s anonymity, due to his age.<\/p>\n<p>Harvey\u2019s sister Sophie said of the killer: \u201cHe\u2019s a 15-year-old boy. We\u2019d like to think that he didn\u2019t want to murder Harvey.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s just from a troubled background and services have let him down.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She described the trauma of the six-week long trial and how watching the CCTV of her brother being stabbed will \u201chaunt me forever\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The women said they are campaigning for knife arches to be installed in all secondary schools and colleges.<\/p>\n<p>Caroline Willgoose said: \u201cI know it goes a lot deeper than that. But, let\u2019s start somewhere, and then go into schools and educate children of the devastation, the pure devastation, of what this has caused.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mrs Willgoose believes her son\u2019s death could have been prevented, especially after the killer\u2019s mother reported him having an axe.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/2.80849789.jpg\" alt=\"Harvey Willgoose death\" data-title=\"Harvey Willgoose death\" data-copyright-holder=\"PA Wire\" data-copyright-notice=\"PA Wire\/PA Images\" data-credit=\"Jacob King\" data-usage-terms=\"FILE PHOTO\"  \/>Harvey Willgoose died following a stabbing incident in February (Jacob King\/PA)<\/p>\n<p>The jury in the trial also heard how the school\u2019s assistant head asked the defendant if he had anything on him which he should not hours before the murder, and the boy said he did not.<\/p>\n<p>Mrs Willgoose said last week: \u201cIf you have a reason to ask that child, you\u2019ve got a reason to search that child.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Asked about knife crime and the Willgooses\u2019 campaign on the same ITV programme, justice minister Alex Davies-Jones said: \u201cIt is something that terrifies me.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t think anyone could have heard the testimony of Caroline and Sophie and not be moved.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ms Davies-Jones said Home Secretary Yvette Cooper is looking at the family\u2019s proposals on knife arches.<\/p>\n<p>She said she was \u201creally keen\u201d to examine the family\u2019s experience of the criminal justice system.<\/p>\n<p>Steve Davies, chief executive of St Clare Catholic Multi Academy Trust, said on Friday: \u201cWe think especially of Harvey\u2019s family, loved ones and friends today. We cannot begin to imagine the immeasurable impact the loss of Harvey has had on them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHarvey was a much-loved, positive and outgoing pupil whose memory will be cherished by all who knew him. As a community we have been devastated by his death and we continue to think of him every day.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHarvey\u2019s death was an unimaginable tragedy for all, and one that understandably gives rise to a number of questions from his family and others.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow that the trial has finished, a number of investigations aimed at addressing and answering these questions will be able to proceed.
