They are in a park and the photo is seepier, and black and white.\" class=\"sc-d1200759-0 dvfjxj\"\/>Geoff Hiscock<\/p>\n<p>Snip Turner, Mick Loughton, Chris Stokes, Jock Carleton and Siggi Holmes formed Genesis in 1966 &#8211; not to be confused with the better known progressive rock band<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">A 1960s band is finally releasing an album after its music was accidentally discovered by a producer.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">Chris Stokes, from Luton, sold an electric piano on eBay and included some of his band&#8217;s sound clips in the listing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">The Genesis \u2013 not to be confused with the globally famous progressive rock band <a target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/entertainment-arts-51734115\" class=\"sc-f9178328-0 bGFWdi\" rel=\"noopener\">starring Phil Collins and Peter Gabriel<\/a> \u2013 recorded music in the 60s and 70s.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">Chris, who is now 80 and lives in Essex, said: &#8220;If I hadn&#8217;t sold the e-piano for \u00a310, all of this music would have ended up in landfill.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">The piano was picked up by music producer Will Twynham, who is based in Bishop&#8217;s Stortford in Hertfordshire, and goes under the name Dimorphodons.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">&#8220;I was browsing eBay for weird and semi-working musical gear, when the sound clip on Chris&#8217;s old Hohner electric piano stopped me in my tracks,&#8221; said Will.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">&#8220;It was a great song, and as a fan of 60s and 70s obscurities I knew it was unknown.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/1753966091_383_grey-placeholder.png\" class=\"sc-d1200759-0 dkIvM hide-when-no-script\" aria-label=\"image unavailable\"\/><img decoding=\"async\"   src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/7e0f4350-745f-11f0-8689-0f7647a3ab5c.jpg.webp.webp\" loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"Mary Epworth A shot of Will from above in a small recording space, which has gold foil curtains hung on both sides and a batik style drape of mountains and forests behind him. He wears bright red flowing jacket, bright red trousers and a black T-shirt.\" class=\"sc-d1200759-0 dvfjxj\"\/>Mary Epworth<\/p>\n<p>Will Twynham, aka Dimorphodons, was thrilled to discover the unreleased music by The Genesis<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">After meeting Chris in person, Will was &#8220;absolutely astounded&#8221; to hear 80 more tracks from between 1964 and 1974.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">&#8220;I couldn&#8217;t believe that this quantity and quality of music had gone unreleased for such a long time and immediately decided to rectify the situation,&#8221; said Will, who is releasing some of the material under his record label Hand of Glory.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">The band was originally called Genesis, but did not register its name and had folded by the time the group fronted by Gabriel shot to fame.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">Chris said their only connection with the other Genesis was via record producer Jonathan King.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">&#8220;Jonathan King was managing a band called Hedgehoppers Anonymous, and we did a gig supporting them. We used to do a pretty wild version of Bob Dylan&#8217;s Like a Rolling Stone and Vanilla Fudge You Keep Me Hanging On,&#8221; said Chris.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">Instead of just performing covers, The Genesis wanted to write and record their own music, including a pop opera that tells a story.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">&#8220;Over a period of three months we came up with this thing. We were blundering around in the dark, we didn&#8217;t know what the hell we were doing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">&#8220;It was nothing like we&#8217;d heard another pop group do.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">&#8220;We managed to con an afternoon with this new studio in King Street \u2013 it was a guy with a mixer and tape recorder.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">In that same studio, Chris recalls meeting another band rehearsing for a gig.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">&#8220;It just happened to be Ian Anderson and Clive Bunker, Mick Abrahams \u2026 who became Jethro Tull.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">&#8220;Luton back then was a phenomenal place to grow up, music wise. Chris wears rectangular metal glasses and a white T-shirt, Snip has a fringe and shoulder length white hair, and wears a black t-shirt with lions on.\" class=\"sc-d1200759-0 dvfjxj\"\/>Supplied<\/p>\n<p>Chris and former bandmate Snip Turner met at a Luton musicians reunion earlier this year<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">Chris said the remaining band members &#8220;think it&#8217;s insane&#8221; that their music is being released.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">&#8220;They&#8217;re mildly amused that anybody is taking any interest whatever.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">&#8220;It appeals to the inner ego, that somebody has finally listened to the nonsense I was writing 40 to 50 years ago and thinks there is any worth in it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">Will believes the music is waiting to be discovered.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">&#8220;Somehow Chris managed to have a really great stab at all the music of the era, including moody mid-60s beat group sounds like The Zombies, psych, prog, glam and of course a historic, pioneering rock opera!<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">&#8220;There&#8217;s even a fully orchestrated 15-minute Brit-jazz track featuring a saxophonist from the John Barry Seven.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">Chris concluded: &#8220;I have described my life many times as being a series of happy accidents, and this is just another one.
