Despite earning a doctorate in clinical psychology, Dr. Phil might need a psychologist to explain the concept of \u201ccognitive dissonance\u201d to him. (It\u2019s probably a good thing he let his license to actually practice psychology lapse.) \u201cI don\u2019t think I\u2019m qualified to talk about politics,\u201d the former TV doctor said during a recent interview with The New York Times<\/a>. That\u2019s probably true, but it sure hasn\u2019t stopped him from doing it over and over and over again.<\/p>\n

Two years ago, Dr. Phil (aka Phil McGraw) created his own company, Merit Street Media, to \u201cfight for America and its families, which are under a cultural \u2018woke\u2019 assault as never before\u201d (per Daily Beast<\/a>). That didn\u2019t work\u2014the media company filed for bankruptcy<\/a> just 15 months later\u2014but it didn\u2019t stop him from continuing to speak out about the thing he\u2019s supposedly not qualified to talk about at all. Since founding Merit Street, McGraw has spoken at multiple Trump rallies (though he claimed his participation in Trump\u2019s October Madison Square Garden event was \u201can act of rebellion<\/a>\u201d against an alleged snub from Kamala Harris\u2019 campaign). He was also recently spotted on a ride-along with ICE during a Los Angeles raid. He\u2019s even earned the admiration of Trump-appointed border czar Tom Homan, who called him a \u201csincere and compassionate man, per Politico<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

And yet, McGraw still declined to explicitly tell NYT who he voted for. \u201cWhen people ask me about that, I ask them if they\u2019ve listened to what I said,\u201d he shared, asking his interviewer, \u201cDid you?\u201d Here\u2019s what he said next, for any readers who want to draw their own conclusions: \u201cThey have impeached [Trump], indicted him, raided him, railroaded him, shot him and sued him\u2026 And where is he? He is still standing.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Despite all the pesky political questions, Dr. Phil is still standing too. \u201cI don\u2019t have to be doing this at all,\u201d he told NYT. \u201cThis is not a got-to job. This is a get-to job.\u201d We\u2019re going out on a limb here, but being so cozy with the current administration<\/a> probably helps. <\/p>\n
