Seeing clever storage hacks<\/a> and multipurpose furniture that make a tiny home<\/a> feel larger is like visual ASMR to me.<\/p>\n That’s why I stay in little accommodations around the world \u2014 from a lifeguard tower<\/a> in Miami, to sleeper train cabins<\/a> in the US and Europe, to an Airstream trailer<\/a> in Austria.<\/p>\n But I don’t think any of those past stays were as impressive as a tiny home hotel<\/a> in Germany that I booked for two nights in 2022. The $70-a-night accommodation surprised me with its design, technology, and space-saving solutions.<\/p>\n The concept of a tiny cylindrical home was completely new to me.<\/p>\n The interior and exterior of the reporter’s accommodation.<\/p>\n Joey Hadden\/Business Insider<\/p>\n I’d never stayed in a tiny home remotely resembling this tubular shape before. Even a livable barrel<\/a> I booked in Switzerland wasn’t quite as unique, given its one-story layout inside.<\/p>\n I was surprised by the home’s shape and excited by the prospect of sleeping in a tiny space fashioned like a standing cylinder. <\/p>\n Upon arrival, I was surprised that the home had high-tech features I’d never seen before, from checking in with my phone to controlling the room temperature from bed.<\/p>\n Smart controls on the reporter’s phone.<\/p>\n Joey Hadden\/Business Insider<\/p>\n When I arrived at the tiny home by train from the airport in Berlin, there didn’t seem to be any employees on the property.<\/p>\n An email from Slube informed me I’d be staying in room five and could check in by myself. This immediately surprised me because, in the past, a host has always either met me or provided directions on where to access a key on the property.<\/p>\n Instead, I checked into my Slube with a code sent to my phone. It was a pleasant surprise that I didn’t have to keep track of a key during my stay for the first time.<\/p>\n Once inside, I found that the Slube had additional smart features I hadn’t seen before. I controlled the lights and temperature of each story of the home from my phone, which I accessed from my web browser. This made my stay feel a little more luxurious than expected since I didn’t ever have to get out of bed to adjust either control.<\/p>\n It was my first time staying in a tiny home with a ladder.<\/p>\n A view from the top of the ladder.<\/p>\n Joey Hadden\/Business Insider<\/p>\n Each story was 53 square feet. The first level included the bathroom, a sitting area with a fold-out table and coffee nook, and a ladder to the second lofted floor, where I’d be sleeping.<\/p>\n This was my first time climbing a ladder in a tiny home to reach my bed (save for upper train bunks<\/a>). I thought climbing was easy, but it could be challenging for some.<\/p>\n There was a latched gate at the top of the ladder, which I imagine was built to keep people safe from falling. This made me feel like a kid<\/a> in a playhouse, which was fun.<\/p>\n Upstairs, I wasn’t expecting to have a nightstand in a 53-square-foot bedroom.<\/p>\n The shelf beneath the bed served as a nightstand.<\/p>\n Joey Hadden\/Business Insider<\/p>\n After staying in tiny spaces so often, I no longer expect to have a nightstand to store my electronics and water bottle. And this bedroom was smaller than most I’ve slept in.<\/p>\n So I was surprised when I spotted a lower platform surrounding the bed that doubled as a nightstand.
