{"id":337191,"date":"2025-08-12T01:30:23","date_gmt":"2025-08-12T01:30:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/337191\/"},"modified":"2025-08-12T01:30:23","modified_gmt":"2025-08-12T01:30:23","slug":"dog-mauled-to-death-in-front-of-pregnant-owner-at-bristol-harbourside","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/337191\/","title":{"rendered":"Dog mauled to death in front of pregnant owner at Bristol Harbourside"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The heavily-tattooed owner ran off with the attacking animal without apologising<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/1_AMR_110825_DogDeath.jpg\" loading=\"eager\"  \/>Max was mauled to death on Bristol&#8217;s Harbourside (Image: Joe McKenna)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">A heavily-pregnant woman was left traumatised after her beloved pet was mauled to death in front of her by an out of control dog on Bristol&#8217;s <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/all-about\/harbourside\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Harbourside<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Charlotte Sipson, who is due to give birth in November, was walking her Havanese dog Max near Rolt&#8217;s Boatyard on Spike Island with a friend on August 8 when he was suddenly <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/news\/bristol-news\/xl-bully-dog-destroyed-attack-10100245\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">attacked<\/a> by a much larger animal, which was off its lead with no owner in sight.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">After Charlotte and her friend, who had her 14-month old toddler with her, eventually managed to free Max from the attacking dog\u2019s jaws, it began circling some children nearby.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The attacking dog\u2019s owner, who was described as &#8216;heavily tattooed&#8217; and topless, eventually emerged but ran off with the guilty animal without saying anything or apologising to Charlotte.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/0_AMR_110825_DogDeath_02.jpg\" alt=\"Max's owners Charlotte and Joe have been left heartbroken by the traumatic incident\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>Max&#8217;s owners Charlotte and Joe have been left heartbroken by the traumatic incident(Image: Joe McKenna)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Charlotte rushed Max to a vets in Imperial Park, <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/all-about\/hartcliffe\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Hartcliffe<\/a>, but he was dead by the time they arrived from a suspected punctured lung.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The shocking incident has left Charlotte\u2019s fianc\u00e9 Joe McKenna not only concerned about her but also about the impact the attack may have had on their unborn baby.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cShe\u2019s in bits,\u201d Joe said. \u201cIt was highly traumatic and obviously I\u2019m nervous because of the stress on the baby. For us it\u2019s been quite a big emotional toll.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Joe said both he and Charlotte were heartbroken their child would never get to meet Max, who was particularly vulnerable as he was 11-years-old and blind as well as much smaller than his aggressor.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cHe was the cutest dog, like butter wouldn\u2019t melt,\u201d Joe said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The exact breed of the guilty animal is not known, but Joe described it as grey, short-haired and &#8216;massively muscly&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">While Joe couldn\u2019t be sure, he said the dog resembled an XL Bully, a breed banned in the UK which has been responsible for fatal attacks on humans, including the <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/news\/bristol-news\/woman-killed-xl-bully-bristol-9982514\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">horrific death of 19-year-old Morgan Dorsett<\/a> in Withywood in February 2025.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">With the dog who killed Max apparently still on the loose, Joe said he was worried the next incident it was involved in could be even worse, especially with so many children enjoying the sun during their summer holidays.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/0_XL-bully-ban.jpg\" alt=\"Joe said the dog which attacked Max was similar in size and build to an XL Bully, a banned breed\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>Joe said the dog which attacked Max was similar in size and build to an XL Bully, a banned breed(Image: PA)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cI think the main thing we&#8217;re scared about is this happening to other people or children,&#8221; he said. \u201cQuite frankly\u2026 it&#8217;s a danger to the public.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cIt\u2019s the summer holidays, the kids are everywhere. It&#8217;s been the Balloon Fiesta, so it was super busy and this guy&#8217;s still out there with this dog, and that scares me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Joe and Charlotte reported the incident to Avon &amp; Somerset Police and <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/all-about\/bristol-city-council\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Bristol City Council<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">A police spokesperson confirmed they were investigating the incident.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cOn Saturday morning we received a report that a dog had been attacked by a grey pitbull-type dog at about 4pm the previous day (Friday 8 August) in Hanover Place,&#8221; the spokesperson said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cSadly, the dog died of its injuries shortly after the incident. No person was injured.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cThe owner of the other dog was reported to have left the scene with the dog after the incident.
