{"id":337373,"date":"2025-08-12T03:07:11","date_gmt":"2025-08-12T03:07:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/337373\/"},"modified":"2025-08-12T03:07:11","modified_gmt":"2025-08-12T03:07:11","slug":"the-holme-lane-on-tong-street-is-crowned-best-pub-2025","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/337373\/","title":{"rendered":"The Holme Lane on Tong Street is crowned Best Pub 2025"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n  We can officially announce that The Holme Lane pub, on Tong Street has been voted as the Best Pub 2025.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The T&amp;A launched the competition a few weeks ago and nominations poured in, which were then whittled down to a final 10.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  But now our readers have crowned their champion, after the final voting form appeared in the T&amp;A newspaper on Saturday, August 2.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Current landlord of The Holme Lane, Luke Buttrey, 49, feels \u201creally chuffed\u201d with the accolade.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <strong>MORE ON THIS:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetelegraphandargus.co.uk\/news\/25360108.holme-lane-pub-bradford-running-t-award\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pub that is \u2018home away from home\u2019 says it is \u2018delighted\u2019 to be up for award<\/a><\/strong>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  He said: \u201cI\u2019m over the moon. I thought out-of-town pubs don\u2019t get a look in.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Luke added: \u201cAll our customers will be as well.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <img   alt=\"The Holme Lane, in Tong Street\" style=\"width: 100%;\"\/>The Holme Lane, in Tong Street (Image: UGC) The pub has been in the Buttrey family since 1998 but their association with The Holme Lane goes back even further than that.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Luke said dad, Michael Buttrey, 77, and mum Maria Buttrey, 74, took over the pub for a couple of months before going to two other pubs, then making their way back to Tong Street.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  He added: \u201cThis came up and they\u2019ve been here ever since.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The family has \u201calways loved doing it\u201d, according to Luke.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <img   alt=\"Michael Buttrey and son and now landlord Luke Buttrey of The Holme Lane, which has been crowned the Best Pub 2025\" style=\"width: 100%;\"\/>Michael Buttrey and son and now landlord Luke Buttrey of The Holme Lane, which has been crowned the Best Pub 2025 (Image: Telegraph &amp; Argus) His journey began at 16 when he started DJ-ing at various pubs, but Luke now runs The Holme Lane after his dad handed over the reins.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Luke said: \u201cHe took a step back, but he won\u2019t retire. I don\u2019t want him to.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  He added: \u201cHe does the books and everything.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The Holme Lane is \u201clike a proper old-fashioned pub\u201d and Luke said he likes \u201cto keep the pub like a living room&#8221;.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  He added: \u201cPeople come in and it\u2019s nice and warm and friendly.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cWe chat to customers, listen to their problems, they\u2019re friends. Customers who\u2019ve never been in before, and come in, and chat to them.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  It isn\u2019t a pub where you get served and it\u2019s \u201cthanks, off you trot\u201d, according to Luke.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  That approach has been the recipe for success in remaining open at a time when pubs are disappearing faster than ever, and Luke told the T&amp;A that winning the award will help too.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  He said: \u201cIt\u2019s just a massive boost for us to be recognised.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Luke added: \u201cIt\u2019s getting harder and harder and things change and people aren\u2019t coming out as often but my dad is still holding his own.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cWe\u2019re still going.
