(<a href=\"http:\/\/www.wbrc.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WBRC<\/a>) &#8211; Birmingham is due to take another step toward dealing with people who have no place to live.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | text-start article-text\">On Tuesday, August 12, the Birmingham City Council is likely to vote on spending $1.2 million to help place 15 micro-shelters at the Faith Chapel Care Center downtown.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | text-start article-text\">The money for the third and final phase of the \u201cHome For All\u201d plan will help prepare the site for 14 shelters and an office.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"figure-img img-fluid mx-auto d-block\" alt=\"Birmingham City Council to consider money for micro-shelters for unhoused people\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/S7J2FEL6GBDX3MA5UDEDU54NLY.JPG\" width=\"980\" height=\"548\" \/>Birmingham City Council to consider money for micro-shelters for unhoused people(Pallet)<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | text-start article-text\">During Monday\u2019s city council Budget and Finance Committee meeting, Dr. Meghan Venable-Thomas, the city\u2019s Director of Community Development, responded to a question from councilor Valerie Abbott about whether the site would also attract drug dealers who might prey on homeless people who might be in various phases of recovery or addiction.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | text-start article-text\">\u201cWhen they have the wraparound service providers there, when they have the folks who are administering programs who are around 24\/7, this is next door to the Faith Chapel Care Center where they\u2019re providing other wraparound services in their day center, typically that type of activity wouldn\u2019t be on this site and wouldn\u2019t be allowed particularly because of the security that will be part of the site,\u201d said Venable-Thomas.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | text-start article-text\">Venable-Thomas said the micro-shelters will offer a bed, desk, air conditioning, heat and microwave, while the bathroom, showers, kitchen and eating spaces will be communal.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | text-start article-text\">Faith Chapel Care Center will provide educational and laundry service, IDs, mental health support, and workforce development training.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | text-start article-text\">Get news alerts in the <a href=\"https:\/\/apps.apple.com\/us\/app\/wbrc-fox6-news\/id449660326\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Apple App Store<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/apps\/details?id=com.raycom.wbrc&amp;hl=en_US&amp;gl=US\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Google Play Store<\/a> or subscribe to our email newsletter <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wbrc.com\/newsletter\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"copyright |\">Copyright 2025 WBRC.
