{"id":337887,"date":"2025-08-12T07:41:10","date_gmt":"2025-08-12T07:41:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/337887\/"},"modified":"2025-08-12T07:41:10","modified_gmt":"2025-08-12T07:41:10","slug":"glasgow-school-of-art-granted-funding-from-ukri-arts-and-humanities-research-council-for-doctoral-training-college","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/337887\/","title":{"rendered":"Glasgow School of Art granted funding from UKRI Arts and Humanities Research Council for doctoral training college"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A politician from Forres has lodged a motion at Holyrood highlighting a move to address regional inequalities and underrepresentation in higher education.<\/p>\n<p>Scottish Green MSP for the Highlands and Islands, Ariane Burgess, welcomes the announcement that The Glasgow School of Art &#8211; whose School of Innovation and Technology is at Blairs Farm Steading, Altyre &#8211; has secured funding for Scotland\u2019s rural creative economy.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"rthmb\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg xmlns=\" http:=\"\" viewbox=\"0 0 2081 1958\" alt=\"Green MSP for Highlands and Islands, Ariane Burgess.\" data-root=\"\/_media\/img\/\" data-path=\"1P0RLFREYCQV31MPZBE7.jpg\" data-ar=\"1.06\"\/>Green MSP for Highlands and Islands, Ariane Burgess.<\/p>\n<p>She said: \u201cThe Glasgow School of Art\u2019s vision for a distributed doctoral college will not only strengthen our creative industries but also ensure that people from all parts of Scotland have access to world-class research opportunities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m proud to lodge a motion in parliament recognising this important step forward.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The initiative, titled \u2018A Golden Thread: Crafting the Creative Economy from Scotland\u2019s Highlands, Lowlands and Islands\u2019, will support 20 PhD researchers from rural and island communities.<\/p>\n<p>The funding, awarded through the UKRI Arts and Humanities Research Council\u2019s Doctoral Focal Awards programme, will enable the creation of a new doctoral training college in partnership with the Open University and Scotland\u2019s Rural College (SRUC).<\/p>\n<p>The rural creative economy is predominantly a women-led industry that contributes an estimated \u00a370 million annually to the Scottish economy.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"rthmb\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg xmlns=\" http:=\"\" viewbox=\"0 0 8256 5504\" alt=\"The Glasgow School of Art campus at Altyre Estate, Forres.
