Unsurprisingly, new West Ham United goalkeeper Mads Hermansen was quick to credit Casper Ankergren after completing his \u00a318 million move from Leicester City on Saturday. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Hammers News <\/strong>confirmed all the way back in June, when the former Leeds United and Brighton and Hove Albion glovesman returned to England to join Graham Potter\u2019s coaching staff, that Casper Ankergren was pushing for Mads Hermansen\u2019s arrival<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Coach and player are now officially reunited, two years after the Dane made that bargain \u00a35 million switch from Brondby to Leicester City.<\/p>\n

Ankergren described Hermansen as an \u2018amazing\u2019 talent<\/a> during the 24-year-old\u2019s final few weeks at the Superliga outfit.<\/p>\n

But speaking to the club\u2019s official website<\/a> during his official unveiling as a West Ham United<\/a> player, the club\u2019s new number one \u2013 literally [he takes Lukasz Fabianski\u2019s old shirt] \u2013 Mads Hermansen<\/a> opened up on the discussions he had with another compatriot prior to boarding a flight to East London.<\/p>\n

Hermansen needs to play only once \u2013 his debut could come on Saturday against newly-promoted Sunderland \u2013 to exceed the tally of Premier League appearances made by Frederik Alves<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Former teammates at Brondby and with the Denmark Under-21 side, Hermansen spoke to the Silkeborg graduate recently. <\/p>\n

And, while West Ham sold Alves for just \u00a31 million<\/a> before he had even made his top-flight debut, it appears that the now-25-year-old centre-back had only good words to say about his old employers. <\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m very happy. I\u2019m very proud to be here, and I can\u2019t wait to get started,\u201d Hermansen begins. \u201cI felt a long time ago that West Ham and I could be a good match.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI can definitely see myself playing in the way the team wants to,\u00a0so it felt natural all the way, so West Ham was a pretty easy choice.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s very special. One of my good friends, Frederik Alves, who I played with at Brondby, was the last one to be here,\u00a0so I heard a lot of great things about the club.\u00a0I can\u2019t wait.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hermansen on Ankergren influence as Alphonse Areola loses grip on number one shirt <\/p>\n

On Ankergren, Hermansen said a couple of years ago that West Ham\u2019s newly-appointed Lead First-Team Goalkeeping Coach had \u2018helped to raise my level and challenge me, not only technically but also mentally\u2019.<\/p>\n

Flash forward to 2025, and Ankergren will be hoping to pick up where he left off as he gets his mitts on the one-time Danish Superliga champion again.<\/p>\n

\u201cI worked a few years with him at Brondby,\u201d Hermansen says on Ankergren. \u201cI think we share the way we think about goalkeeping,\u00a0and we share the way we see football. So there\u2019s a good match there, and I can\u2019t wait to keep developing with him.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI haven\u2019t spoken to [Graham Potter] yet, but I\u2019ve spoken to Ankergren, and I\u2019ve been filled in on what the head coach expects from me.\u201d<\/p>\n

While Alphonse Areola appeared to hand Hermansen a warm welcome<\/a> as the former joined training for the first time, his arrival means the former Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Fulham \u2018keeper is likely to lose his place between the sticks on the eve of a new season.<\/p>\n
