A man is starting a three year nine month prison sentence after arson attacks in Sheffield on two consecutive nights last year.<\/p>\n
25 year old Michael Trainer, of no fixed address, targeted the same victims at homes in Upperthorpe and Oughtibridge in October.<\/p>\n
The first incident, at around 11pm on October 18, saw the ground floor of a property on Philadelphia Gardens set alight.<\/p>\n
A 61 year old woman and a 14 year old girl, who were upstairs, managed to escape unharmed.<\/p>\n
The following evening, October 19, Trainer started a fire on Birch House Avenue.<\/p>\n
The pair targeted in the first attack were inside, along with a 44 year old woman and two 22 year olds. All got out safely.<\/p>\n
Trainer’s DNA was found on a brick and a bottle found at the scene, meaning police were able to make an arrest on October 28.<\/p>\n
He admitted two counts of arson with recklessness as to whether life was endangered at Sheffield Crown Court.<\/p>\n
Detective Constable Kevin Sibley, of South Yorkshire Police, said: \u201cTrainer\u2019s crimes are a shocking example of the mindless violence that has no place in society.<\/p>\n
\u201cFortunately, none of those targeted in Trainer\u2019s attacks were injured. However, he had no consideration for their safety when he started those fires, and his crimes will leave a lasting impact on his victims both financially and emotionally. <\/p>\n
\u201cThanks to the dedicated work of our officers we were able to link Trainer to these offences through forensic evidence in a matter of days, and I am glad that he has been brought to justice.\u201d<\/p>\n
