Xabi Alonso has said ‘it is not a good time’ to make speculation over his future. Once again, the former Liverpool midfielder finds himself linked with taking a job elsewhere, this time at Real Madrid.<\/p>\n
After a highly successful playing career, during which he added a Champions League<\/a> and FA Cup<\/a> to his honours list as a Liverpool<\/a> midfielder between 2004 and 2009, Alonso<\/a> has made the seamless transition into management. At Bayer Leverkusen last season he oversaw an unbeaten run to a Bundesliga and German Cup double.<\/p>\n Such achievements did not go without recognition as he was involved in rumours to take over from Jurgen Klopp<\/a> at Anfield<\/a> last year, and has also been linked with taking up the head coach role at other former clubs Real and Bayern Munich.<\/p>\n READ MORE: Former Liverpool star in line for shock Real Madrid role and it’s not Jurgen Klopp or Xabi Alonso<\/a>READ MORE: Philippe Coutinho gives brutally honest take on career after Liverpool – ‘I just wasn’t able to’<\/a><\/p>\n With reports of Carlo Ancelotti possibly vacating his position in Madrid<\/a>, the door could soon open to the foretold opportunity at Real.<\/p>\n But, on Friday the Spaniard responded: “It’s not a good time to discuss the future. We’re at a very important moment in the season,” knowing that his Leverkusen team sit only six points behind Bayern with only five Bundesliga matches to overturn the deficit.<\/p>\n “I don’t want to talk about speculation and rumours. [I understand] that this is happening, but what’s more important to me is what’s happening right now.”<\/p>\n What happens beyond is therefore unknown as Alonso’s commitment to his duties in Germany is his priority.<\/p>\n Alonso’s stance is similar to when he was linked with replacing Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool 13 months ago.<\/p>\n “At that time I was focused, I had a big thing with the Leverkusen players and we were really focused on that,” Alonso recalled<\/a> when his side visited Anfield in the Champions League earlier this season.<\/p>\n “It feels great to be back after a few years to be back here. It’s always special. You notice the development of the club, the new stands look pretty amazing.<\/p>\n “Let’s talk about the game tomorrow, it’s more interesting than my future.”<\/p>\n
