Jack London State Historic Park will host two guided hikes on Aug. 30; a hike to the park\u2019s summit from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and a bird identification walk, guided in Spanish, from 9 a.m. to noon.<\/p>\n
Jack London State Historic Park is set to host two distinct guided hikes later this month, an English-language hike to the park\u2019s summit and a Spanish-language bird identification walk.<\/p>\n
Both hikes offer unique experiences for visitors and reservations can be made at https:\/\/jacklondonpark.com\/events\/<\/a>.<\/p>\n The 8-mile summit trek is described as moderately paced but challenging. It is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 30.<\/p>\n The route will take hikers through the shaded Lake Trail and Mountain Trail before gradually transitioning to the sunny Hayfields Trail as it ascends to the top of Sonoma Mountain.<\/p>\n Tickets are $10 in addition to the $10-per-vehicle park-entry fee. To reserve a spot, visit, https:\/\/jacklondonpark.com\/events\/hike-to-the-summit\/<\/a>.<\/p>\n The bird identification walk, Las Aves de Sonoma, take place from 9 a.m. to noon, also on Aug. 30.<\/p>\n After a quick discussion of cellphone applications to help guests identify birds, the group will use their phones to do so as they walk to London Lake.<\/p>\n This slow-paced walk will allow ample time for listening and spotting birds while experiencing the forest.<\/p>\n Participants should download the Merlin Bird ID application before coming to the park, available in the Apple App Store<\/a> or the Google Play Store<\/a>.<\/p>\n This hike is free, aside from the $10 per vehicle park entry fee. Reservations are required at https:\/\/jacklondonpark.com\/events\/las-aves-de-sonoma\/<\/a>.<\/p>\n Participants for both hikes are encouraged to bring plenty of water, hiking poles, dress in layers, and wear sturdy shoes.<\/p>\n Those embarking on the summit hike should pack a lunch.<\/p>\n In the event of extreme heat, both hikes may be canceled.<\/p>\n
