Several royal experts have thoughts on the future of Prince Harry<\/strong><\/a> and Prince William<\/strong><\/a>\u2019s relationship, and it seems there\u2019s no faith for a reconciliation between the brothers.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe rift is very profound and very long-lasting,\u201d British historian Robert Lacey<\/strong> told People<\/a> in their royal family cover story released on Tuesday, August 12. \u201cIt will not be changed, in my opinion, until Harry makes a move and apologizes.\u201d<\/p>\n

Harry, 40, and William, 43, have been at odds for years, but the tension between the brothers was made public in 2020 after the Duke of Sussex and wife Meghan Markle<\/strong> announced their decision<\/a> to part ways from the royal family.<\/p>\n

\u201cThings were said that sparked the initial rift, and it\u2019s never healed,\u201d Princess Diana<\/strong> biographer Andrew Morton<\/strong> told People. Harry offered insight into the early days of his feud with William in his 2023 memoir, Spare<\/a>. The book revealed an apparent confrontation in 2019 that resulted in an alleged physical altercation between the two<\/a>. (William has never publicly addressed Harry\u2019s book.)<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tPrince Harry\u2019s ongoing feud with his brother, Prince William, is a far different animal than his rift with his father, King Charles. \u201cI think that Harry\u2019s relationship with his brother is a different beast than his relationship with his father,\u201d royal expert Kristen Meinzer exclusively tells Us Weekly. \u201cBut perhaps if Charles warms more to [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n

Morton also referred to the feud as a \u201cgreat loss for the monarchy,\u201d explaining that if the late Diana were still alive, she \u201cwould have tried to act as a peacemaker\u201d between the brothers. (Diana died at age 36 in August 1997 following a car crash in Paris.)<\/p>\n

Royal historian Amanda Foreman hinted to People that \u201ceveryone\u201d wants a reconciliation for William and Harry \u201cto happen on their terms,\u201d noting that\u2019s the part that \u201cmakes it impossible.\u201d<\/p>\n

While Harry and William aren\u2019t any closer to being on solid ground, things between the Duke of Sussex and his father, King Charles III<\/strong>, might be headed in a different direction. It\u2019s been widely reported that Harry and Charles\u2019 teams have talked, with rumors of a reconciliation on the horizon.<\/p>\n

Tuesday\u2019s People story also hinted that there could be a face-to-face meeting between Harry and Charles, 76, next month. The Duke of Sussex is set to return to the U.K. in September for his duties as the patron of WellChild<\/a>. This would mark the first time Harry and Charles have seen each other<\/a> in person after the king went public with his cancer diagnosis in February 2024.
