of the US vice-president<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">A musician has described walking out of a venue before a gig after finding out it would be attended by US Vice President JD Vance.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">Folk-rock singer-songwriter Dolly Mavies said that she and her band &#8220;packed up our stuff and left&#8221; when they discovered it was to entertain the holidaying Republican politician, who is holidaying in Oxfordshire. <\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">His visit to Dean, near Charlbury, has resulted in an increased police presence in the area. <\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">It comes after he spent time with the foreign secretary in Kent, where the pair went <a target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/czr68vde7nvo\" class=\"sc-f9178328-0 bGFWdi\" rel=\"noopener\">fishing together and appeared to bond<\/a> despite their political differences. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/1753966091_383_grey-placeholder.png\" class=\"sc-d1200759-0 dkIvM hide-when-no-script\" aria-label=\"image unavailable\"\/><img decoding=\"async\"   src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/7d058a50-7766-11f0-ab98-99f31d28fdf9.png.webp.webp\" loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"Reuters A police car and police &quot;Road Closed&quot; whose real name is Molly Davies &#8211; posted on Instagram that she and her bandmates soon realised Vance would be attending their gig. <\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">&#8220;So not being fans of his, we decided that wasn&#8217;t for us and we packed up our stuff and left,&#8221; she said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">&#8220;Because morals are more important than money.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">In a statement released later, she added that she wanted to use her platform to champion human rights and &#8220;support the voices of those often silenced&#8221;. <\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">&#8220;For me, performing is about connection, authenticity, and integrity,&#8221; she said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">However Vance, a Republican who is Catholic and served for four years in the US Marine Corps before entering politics, was given a warm welcome by Foreign Secretary David Lammy at the weekend. <\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">The Labour politician said he was &#8220;delighted&#8221; the farm and pub belonging to broadcaster Jeremy Clarkson.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">Clarkson posted <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DNQFMvgMz4a\/?hl=en\" class=\"sc-f9178328-0 bGFWdi\" rel=\"noopener\">on Instagram<\/a> with a caption about a JD Vance no-fly zone.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">He said: &#8220;We are the pin. So on the downside, no drone shots today. On the upside, no annoying light aircraft&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">American residents of the Cotswolds include TV chat show host Ellen DeGeneres, who said she fled to the area <a target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/c8d638rrndzo\" class=\"sc-f9178328-0 bGFWdi\" rel=\"noopener\">specifically to escape President Donald Trump<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">Dean resident Jonathan Mazower said locals found out about the visit from police, who had gathered their details.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/1753966091_383_grey-placeholder.png\" class=\"sc-d1200759-0 dkIvM hide-when-no-script\" aria-label=\"image unavailable\"\/><img decoding=\"async\"   src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/3d6354f0-777e-11f0-b15a-09fa5f596b3a.jpg.webp.webp\" loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"Jonathan Mazower The words &quot;Vance go home&quot; stapled on a fence.
