{"id":338910,"date":"2025-08-12T16:43:17","date_gmt":"2025-08-12T16:43:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/338910\/"},"modified":"2025-08-12T16:43:17","modified_gmt":"2025-08-12T16:43:17","slug":"firework-control-zones-confirmed-for-parts-of-glasgow","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/338910\/","title":{"rendered":"Firework control zones confirmed for parts of Glasgow"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/1753966091_383_grey-placeholder.png\" class=\"sc-d1200759-0 dkIvM hide-when-no-script\" aria-label=\"image unavailable\"\/><img decoding=\"async\"   src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/e7a03720-7793-11f0-907d-6ff0082c2def.jpg.webp.webp\" loading=\"eager\" alt=\"PA Media Children holding sparklers - their faces cannot be seen\" class=\"sc-d1200759-0 dvfjxj\"\/>PA Media<\/p>\n<p>Three areas in Glasgow will have control zones introduced for fireworks<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">Fireworks will be banned in parts of Glasgow this November as the city introduces control zones for the first time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">The new rules will affect Govanhill, Pollokshields and Broomhouse from 1-10 November, banning people from setting off fireworks on private or public land &#8211; including gardens &#8211; during that timeframe.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">It is hoped the move will boost safety, cut disturbances and shield vulnerable residents and animals from loud noises,  after years of debate<a target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/uk-scotland-67267309\" class=\"sc-f9178328-0 bGFWdi\" rel=\"noopener\"> surrounding the negative impact of fireworks<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\"> A number of applications for other zones elsewhere in the city were rejected.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">A ban had been <a target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/cd6ydzyx38qo\" class=\"sc-f9178328-0 bGFWdi\" rel=\"noopener\">intended to be introduced in Pollockshields last year<\/a>, due to the area being heavily affected by trouble around Bonfire Night.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">However, Glasgow City Council <a target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/cn5zl71v1ryo\" class=\"sc-f9178328-0 bGFWdi\" rel=\"noopener\">missed the deadline to issue a notification<\/a> and the ban could not go ahead. <\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">Pollokshields councillor Jon Molyneux  welcomed the move going ahead in the autumn.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">Councillor Molyneux, who has been campaigning for a citywide ban, said: &#8220;After a deeply disappointing &#8216;false start&#8217; last year it is good that a fireworks control zone is going ahead in Pollokshields, as well as in Govanhill and Broomhouse.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">&#8220;It is vital that these restrictions are well-communicated so people know the rules and the consequences of breaking them. It is also important that they are part of a wider package of measures to prevent people misusing fireworks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">Southside Central councillor Soryia Siddique was also in favour.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">She said the local community council in Govanhill had raised concerns, along with local residents there. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/1753966091_383_grey-placeholder.png\" class=\"sc-d1200759-0 dkIvM hide-when-no-script\" aria-label=\"image unavailable\"\/><img decoding=\"async\"   src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/39687ea0-7794-11f0-a20f-3b86f375586a.png.webp.webp\" loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"A large orange sign saying You are now in a firework control zone, with an illustration of a firework with a banned sign over it. The sign is in front of a roundabout and several houses. \" class=\"sc-d1200759-0 dvfjxj\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Edinburgh introduced fireworks control zones in areas such as Niddrie last year<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">Edinburgh became <a target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/c623l0qgepvo\" class=\"sc-f9178328-0 bGFWdi\" rel=\"noopener\">the first local authority to outlaw fireworks in August 2024<\/a>, in response to constant anti-social behaviour.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">The decision to introduce firework control zones in the three neighbourhoods was taken following the consideration of consultation responses by a panel made up of Police Scotland, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and council representatives.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">Information taken into account included incidents reported as well as other intelligence.
