Continuing international consultations on the crisis in Ukraine, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday (August 11, 2025) spoke with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The telephonic conversation, which came two days after Mr. Modi spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin, saw him emphasising India\u2019s call for a \u201cpeaceful settlement\u201d of the conflict.<\/p>\n

\u201cPrime Minister thanked President Zelenskyy and reaffirmed India\u2019s steadfast and consistent position for peaceful settlement of the conflict and support for efforts aimed at earliest restoration of peace. Prime Minister reiterated India\u2019s commitment to extend all possible support in this regard,\u201d a statement from the government said. <\/p>\n

In a statement, President Zelenskyy referred to the upcoming summit meeting in Alaska between U.S. President Donald Trump<\/a> and Mr. Putin and said that \u201ceverything\u201d regarding Ukraine must be decided with \u201cUkraine\u2019s participation\u201d. He acknowledged India \u201csupporting our peace efforts\u201d but pitched for the need to stop Russia\u2019s energy export and use \u201ctangible leverage\u201d to send \u201ccorresponding signals to Moscow\u201d. <\/p>\n

I had a long conversation with the Prime Minister of India @narendramodi<\/a>. We discussed in detail all important issues \u2013 both of our bilateral cooperation and the overall diplomatic situation. I am grateful to the Prime Minister for his warm words of support for our people.<\/p>\n

The two leaders reviewed the spectrum of bilateral relationship during the conversation. In a message on X, Mr. Modi said, \u201cIndia remains committed to making every possible contribution in this regard, as well as to further strengthening bilateral ties with Ukraine.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr. Zelenskyy said that he updated Prime Minister Modi about the Russian attacks on Ukrainian cities. \u201cIt is important that India is supporting our peace efforts and shares the position that everything concerning Ukraine must be decided with Ukraine\u2019s participation. Other formats will not deliver results,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The Ukraine leader said that he planned a personal meeting with Prime Minister Modi in September during the UN General Assembly in New York. <\/p>\n

India on Saturday welcomed the August 15 summit in Alaska between President Trump and President Putin with the Official Spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs saying that the summit holds the \u201cpromise\u201d of ending the conflict in Ukraine that has raged for more than three years.<\/p>\n
