A popular late-night talk show host officially has an exit plan from the U.S. <\/p>\n
Jimmy Kimmel confirmed on \u201cThe Sarah Silverman Podcast\u201d <\/a>this week that he has obtained Italian citizenship amid Donald Trump\u2019s second term as president. <\/p>\n \u201cI did get Italian citizenship,\u201d Kimmel said. \u201cWhat\u2019s going on [with Trump] is as bad as you thought it was gonna be. It\u2019s so much worse; it\u2019s just unbelievable. I feel like it\u2019s probably even worse than he would like it to be.\u201d<\/p>\n Kimmel, the host of ABC\u2019s \u201cJimmy Kimmel Live\u201d has never been shy about his criticism of Trump, often leaning into jokes about the president during his late-night monologues. <\/p>\n Trump himself has targeted Kimmel and last month he claimed he would be \u201cNEXT <\/a>to go in the untalented Late night Sweepstakes\u201d Trump\u2019s post was in reference to CBS\u2019 decision to cancel Stephen Colbert\u2019s \u201cThe Late Show.\u201d <\/p>\n \u201cI absolutely love that Colbert\u2019 got fired,\u201d Trump wrote on Truth Social. \u201cHis talent was even less than his ratings. I hear Jimmy Kimmel is next. Has even less talent than Colbert!\u201d<\/p>\n Leaving the country amid a presidency is a common threat, but it doesn\u2019t usually happen. <\/p>\n Celebrities like Rosie O\u2019Donnell and Ellen DeGeneres, who fled the U.S. after Trump defeated Kamala Harris in the presidential election last fall, are rare exceptions. <\/p>\n And as long as Kimmel is hosting his Los Angeles late-night show, which he\u2019s done since 2003, the chances of him leaving the U.S. seem slim.
