{"id":339604,"date":"2025-08-12T22:43:12","date_gmt":"2025-08-12T22:43:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/339604\/"},"modified":"2025-08-12T22:43:12","modified_gmt":"2025-08-12T22:43:12","slug":"plans-to-turn-bothwell-street-building-into-upper-scale-hotel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/339604\/","title":{"rendered":"Plans to turn Bothwell Street building into &#8216;upper scale&#8217; hotel"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>If plans are approved, a largely empty Glasgow city centre building will be transformed into a hotel, aiming to be one of the operator\u2019s best in Europe.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>According to design documents lodged with the council, the B-listed property on Bothwell Street is one of the largest American-Classical-style commercial buildings in the city.<\/p>\n<p>Plans have been submitted to redevelop the former offices and add an extension to turn them into a new \u201cupper-scale hotel\u201d with 235 rooms.<\/p>\n<p>Details of the hotel chain aiming to take it over have been kept confidential in planning documents.<\/p>\n<p>A design statement said: \u201cThe proposed confidential hotel operator is particularly excited about the potential provided by the building to create a best-in-class hotel of distinction, which they anticipate will be one of the finest in their operator\u2019s European portfolio.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It added: \u201cThe listed building is soon to become entirely unoccupied. The commercial office use for which the building was built and designed is no longer viable.
