Our<a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.walesonline.co.uk\/\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\"> photographer Jonathan Myers<\/a> captured striking images of the meteors streaking across the sky over Magor and Undy in <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.walesonline.co.uk\/all-about\/monmouthshire\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Monmouthshire<\/a>, revealing the bright flashes of light caused by tiny space particles burning up in Earth\u2019s atmosphere.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The Perseids is one of the <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.walesonline.co.uk\/whats-on\/watch-perseid-meteor-shower-wales-32240035#:~:text=The%20Perseids%2C%20one%20of%20the,of%2036%20miles%20per%20second.\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">most famous and reliable meteor showers of the year<\/a> and occurs when our planet passes through a trail of debris left by Comet 109P\/Swift-Tuttle.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">As Earth moves through this cosmic dust cloud the particles, which are no bigger than a grain of sand, collide with our atmosphere at around <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.walesonline.co.uk\/all-about\/wales-weather\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">36 miles per second, producing the spectacular streaks we see as shooting stars<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">In 2025 the Perseids are active between July 17 and August 24 with the peak falling on the nights of August 11-12 and August 12-13.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \"><strong class=\"Strong_strong__e2x35\">From superstar gigs to cosy pubs, find out What\u2019s On in Wales by signing up to our <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.walesonline.co.uk\/newsletter-preference-centre\/?view=Solus&amp;mailingListId=5d682317-6568-4796-b97d-fce8c730cc59&amp;utm_source=solusarticle\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">newsletter here<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/0_Screenshot-599.png\" alt=\"The Perseid meteor shower lit up the Welsh skies on Monday, August 11 \" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>The Perseid meteor shower lit up the Welsh skies on Monday, August 11 (Image: Jonathan Myers)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">During the peak the Perseids can produce up to 100 meteors per hour under ideal conditions, according to the National Space Centre.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">This makes it one of the best opportunities of the year for spotting multiple shooting stars in a short period.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Light pollution remains the biggest obstacle for would-be meteor watchers.
