Newcastle have completed a deal for Malick Thiaw to become their third signing of the summer.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Magpies<\/a> have agreed a \u00a335million deal for the AC Milan defender, who has been a long-term target for Eddie Howe’s side.<\/p>\n

Thiaw has swapped the San Siro for St James’ Park this summer<\/p>\n

The latter’s nephew, Andy Howe, Newcastle’s current assistant head of first team recruitment, was in contact with the 24-year-old’s representatives for the last year.<\/p>\n

He flew out to Italy twice this summer to lead negotiations with Milan CEO Giorgio Furlani.<\/p>\n

The Serie A giants were reluctant to cash in on Thiaw, but his desire to move to Tyneside was instrumental in getting a deal done.<\/p>\n

“I’m really excited to join this massive club. I can’t wait to start training and to get to know my new teammates and all the staff,” Thiaw said.<\/p>\n

“The gaffer showed me his vision and what he wants to do with me as a player and the club itself, which is really exciting.<\/p>\n

“I think Newcastle speaks for itself. It’s a great club, a big club with passionate fans who I can’t wait to see at St. James’ Park.”<\/p>\n

Thiaw even turned down advances from Manchester United while Newcastle were in Milan in an attempt to hijack the move.<\/p>\n

The Toon have retained a strong relationship with Milan since their \u00a355m move for Sandro Tonali<\/a> in 2023, who also spoke to Thiaw over life in England.<\/p>\n

The centre-back’s last game for the Rossoneri was a substitute appearance in their 1-1 draw against Leeds in Dublin on Saturday.<\/p>\n

Thiaw had at one stage looked set to join Como in a \u00a321m deal after the two clubs agreed a fee.<\/p>\n

However, the German rejected the move in his quest to join a team plying their trade in the Champions League.<\/p>\n

Thiaw’s arrival in Tyneside will be a welcome boost to boss Howe<\/a>, having been inspired to join the club’s project following impressive pitches of the Englishman’s vision.<\/p>\n

To say it has been a frustrating window for Newcastle<\/a> would be putting it mildly.<\/p>\n

Who have Newcastle missed out on signing this summer?<\/p>\n

They have missed out on the signing of Dean Huijsen, who decided to depart Bournemouth for Real Madrid.<\/p>\n

Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, meanwhile, linked up at Manchester United from Wolves and Brentford respectively.<\/p>\n

Chelsea then beat Newcastle in the race to sign Joao Pedro from Brighton, as well as Liam Delap from Ipswich.<\/p>\n

And most recently, goalkeeper James Trafford rejected a move to Newcastle to return to Manchester City from Burnley, with Manchester United pipping Newcastle to secure Benjamin Sesko’s services<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Newcastle could be hit with another transfer blow with Alexander Isak<\/a>‘s saga refusing to go away.<\/p>\n

The Sweden international has asked to leave the club to join Liverpool, who have already had a \u00a3110m bid rejected<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Isak hasn’t played a single minute of pre-season and is training on his own<\/a> and has no chance of being involved for the opening game against Aston Villa, meaning Anthony Gordon or Will Osula will lead the line.<\/p>\n

And it remains unclear whether Newcastle will part ways with Isak before the window closes.<\/p>\n

In further positive news following Thiaw’s arrival, Yoane Wissa remains a top target for Newcastle<\/a>, with Brentford now targeting Dango Ouattara as his possible replacement.<\/p>\n
