{"id":340296,"date":"2025-08-13T04:58:14","date_gmt":"2025-08-13T04:58:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/340296\/"},"modified":"2025-08-13T04:58:14","modified_gmt":"2025-08-13T04:58:14","slug":"sub-letting-rental-property-scammers-blitzed-by-london-council","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/340296\/","title":{"rendered":"Sub-letting rental property scammers blitzed by London council"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-185371 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/strode-road-london-subletting.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"730\" height=\"450\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>A major London council has launched a major crackdown on sub-letting within its borders, preventing nearly half a million pounds of fraud.<\/p>\n<p>Hammersmith &amp; Fulham Council\u2019s Anti-Fraud Team has caught out 26 housing scammers, halting more than \u00a3475,000 worth of fraud being carried out by the sub-letting fraudsters \u2013 a problem that continues to be a major headache for both the private and council rented housing sectors.<\/p>\n<p>Tip-off<\/p>\n<p>In one case, the council team received a tip-off about someone illegally sub-letting a three-bedroom property in Strode Road, Fulham (pictured).<\/p>\n<p>The council investigators discovered the tenant was living in East London and their bank statements revealed rent payments from family members who were resident in the West London property.<\/p>\n<p>The tenant decided to give up the property before going to court because of the significant evidence against them.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"quote-solid\">\n<p>We will not stop in our fight against housing fraudsters.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>And <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lbhf.gov.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the council<\/a><\/strong> says that in the last year, over 25 properties have been recovered thanks to the Anti-Fraud Team.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-185346 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Rowan-Ree-Hammersmith-Fulham.jpg\" alt=\"Rowan Ree - Hammersmith &amp; Fulham\" width=\"125\" height=\"167\"\/>Rowan Ree, Cabinet Member for Finance and Reform, Hammersmith &amp; Fulham Council<\/p>\n<p>Rowan Ree, Cabinet Member for Finance and Reform, says: \u201cWe will not tolerate people exploiting council homes in this way.
