Drivers were stuck in huge traffic delays on the M6 after an oil spillage on the major motorway.<\/p>\n

Three lanes were shut on the southbound carriageway, <\/a>between J6 for the A38M, and J5 for Castle Bromwich, for several hours.<\/p>\n

Motorists were stuck in gridlock traffic<\/a> due to a broken down lorry and an oil spillage.<\/p>\n

Lane closures on the motorway were having a ‘knock-on effect’ on major routes in Birmingham<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Aston Expressway was heavily congested <\/a>to Dartmouth Circus and the A38 tunnels.<\/p>\n

At 6.08pm, National Highways wrote on social media platform X: “Three lanes (of four) remain closed on the M6 southbound between J6, A38M, Aston, and J5 for Castle Bromwich due to a broken down lorry and oil spillage.<\/p>\n

“Recovery is ongoing at scene and clean up of spillage is ongoing.<\/p>\n

“At least 60 min delays above normal journey times.”<\/p>\n

The latest update on traffic tracker Inrix said: “Long delays and three lanes closed due to broken down lorry and oil spillage on M6 southbound after J6, A38 Spaghetti Junction.<\/p>\n

“Congestion to J8 (M5 Interchange).<\/p>\n

“The outbound A38(M) Aston Expressway is heavily congested to Dartmouth Circus, which is having a knock-on effect on the northbound A38 to St Chad’s Tunnel.”<\/p>\n
