Remember, we’re on the countdown now to the World Cup, and Savinho was beginning to establish himself in the Brazil team. He played six World Cup qualifiers in a row, either starting or off the bench, and then in came Carlo Ancelotti.

“Now, Ancelotti’s first squad for qualifiers in early June… Savinho wasn’t even in it. Now, that I’m sure has set off alarm bells. So, I’m sure in his mind, there must be a temptation… ‘if I can go to a club that gives me Champions League football, where I can be more important than at City, perhaps I can shine, catch Ancelotti’s eye and attention, and get myself back into international contention in time for the World Cup’.

“I think if it wasn’t for the World Cup, it’s very unlikely that we’d be discussing this, because I’m not sure he’d be interested. But in the countdown to 2026, I think that’s putting a little bit of dynamite behind this one,” he added.

Pep Guardiola’s stance on Savinho

City snapped up Omar Marmoush in January before adding Rayan Cherki this summer, while the likes of Jeremy Doku, Phil Foden and Bernardo Silva are also options out wide.

Jack Grealish is on his way out, but City’s interest in Rodrigo means that Savinho’s future appears a little uncertain.

City boss Pep Guardiola was certainly a fan of Savinho last season, telling Manchester Evening News that the Brazilian winger has ‘incredible potential’.

Guardiola believes Savinho can become ‘extraordinary’ if he just improves on his end product in the near future.

“He is a player with incredible potential,” said Guardiola. “We cannot forget he’s so young.

“He needs to make the final third more decisive in aspects like the goal he has done in the last game. He has to do it more. The last goal is more and more complicated and difficult to score than the previous ones – one against ones, the ‘keeper, that maybe last season he missed.

“The moment he will make this step, which will come in a natural way because he has incredible individual quality, when it arrives for his commitment to say I want to do it, I want to be decisive, I want to score goals and make more assists, he will become an extraordinary player.

“He can play on both sides, right and left, he’s so fast, he understands tactically the movements he has so to do so that’s why he can play with us,” he added.

City seemingly have high hopes for Savinho, but Tottenham will look to make a statement signing and lure the former Atletico Mineiro talent to North London.

Tottenham Hotspur have already splashed the cash on Mohammed Kudus, but could add more quality out wide with…

[4100
94,886,2777,79,201,16,15
0":"post-340706","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-football","8":"tag-football","9":"tag-manchester-city","10":"tag-savinho","11":"tag-sports","12":"tag-tottenham-hotspur","13":"tag-uk","14":"tag-united-kingdom
["GET
