A Sheffield man who attacked a stranger he’d invited back to his home with a metal bar has been handed a 13 and a half year prison sentence.<\/p>\n
46 year old Anthony Blackwood, of Scotia Drive in Sheffield, admitted to grievous bodily harm with intent at Sheffield Crown Court.<\/p>\n
He met his victim on February 8 2024 on City Road and invited him to stay at his flat.<\/p>\n
Later, Blackwood attacked the man with a pole, leaving him with life threatening injuries which required surgery.<\/p>\n
Neighbours tipped off police, with Blackwood later trying to claim the victim’s wounds were self inflected.<\/p>\n
He also tried to clean up with scene, but was found out through forensic analysis. <\/p>\n
Detective Constable Kevin Sibley, of South Yorkshire Police, said: “This forensic evidence was crucial and completely went against Blackwood’s false version of events.<\/p>\n
“We also sought expert medical evidence from a forensic pathologist who affirmed that a blunt heavy weapon was used, with the victim suffering a complex depressed skull fracture and bleeding on the surface of the brain. <\/p>\n
“He also suffered a stab wound to the abdomen, and really is fortunate to be alive, such was the brutality of this attack by Blackwood. <\/p>\n
“We’re very grateful for a witness at the scene who bravely intervened to try and stop Blackwood from attacking the victim further and I am pleased a significant custodial sentence has now been given to him. <\/p>\n
“Violence of this kind has no place in our communities and we will take swift action against individuals like Blackwood in order to keep members of the public safe.”<\/p>\n
