Pieter-Steph du Toit was pleased to see World Rugby back the Bomb Squad despite it coming under increasing scrutiny from certain sections of the sport.<\/b><\/p>\n
Since South Africa introduced the bench tactic, which sees them load it with forwards, it has become one of their primary weapons.<\/p>\n
The Boks<\/a> initially went with a split of six forwards and two backs during their 2019 Rugby World Cup win before going 7-1 on occasions four years later.<\/p>\n Claims over Bomb Squad \u2018dangers\u2019<\/p>\n However, there have been calls to ban it, with some claiming that it is dangerous, but World Rugby<\/a> last week revealed that they found no evidence to suggest that has been the case.<\/p>\n \u201cDefinitely for the Springbok squad, it\u2019s the strength of us,\u201d a delighted Du Toit told SportsBoom.co.za<\/a>. \u201cWe\u2019ve got really good depth in the side, so we\u2019re quite fortunate about that, and as a player, you\u2019re fortunate because you get a lot of game time as well, and you get an opportunity to prove yourself,\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cFor us, it\u2019s the strength of us, and we\u2019re definitely going to build on it.\u201d<\/p>\n Du Toit is usually a starter for the Springboks but he was used once off the bench last year \u2013 against Scotland \u2013 when Rassie Erasmus<\/a> picked a 7-1 split for the first time since the 2023 World Cup.<\/p>\n \u201cRassie understands the game. I wouldn\u2019t say just being a forward\u2026 he played the game in the past. He understands what works and what doesn\u2019t work,\u201d the 32-year-old said.<\/p>\n \u201cAnd of course, the way he looks at the game is completely different than anyone else looks at the game. And it\u2019s quite exciting to play on him, and we\u2019re fortunate to have him in the system at the moment.<\/p>\n \u201cThat\u2019s the thing about Rassie. It\u2019s all about innovation. It\u2019s coming up with ways to kind of outsmart the opposition.\u201d<\/p>\n
