{"id":341704,"date":"2025-08-13T17:29:09","date_gmt":"2025-08-13T17:29:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/341704\/"},"modified":"2025-08-13T17:29:09","modified_gmt":"2025-08-13T17:29:09","slug":"scotland-transport-minister-fiona-hyslop-visits-a82-project-to-prevent-rock-falls","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/341704\/","title":{"rendered":"Scotland transport minister Fiona Hyslop visits A82 project to prevent rock falls"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>  <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"rthmb\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg xmlns=\" http:=\"\" viewbox=\"0 0 5712 4284\" alt=\"Cabinet Secretary for Transport Fiona Hyslop at Grotaig, with BEAR Scotland staff working to prevent rock falls on the A82.\" data-root=\"\/_media\/img\/\" data-path=\"I4F1R34JJX5YOL9YPQN9.jpg\" data-ar=\"1.33\"\/>Cabinet Secretary for Transport Fiona Hyslop at Grotaig, with BEAR Scotland staff working to prevent rock falls on the A82.<\/p>\n<p>Scotland\u2019s Cabinet Secretary for Transport learned more about work to prevent rock falls on the A82 by Loch Ness during a visit to the area today.<\/p>\n<p>Fiona Hyslop was at Grotaig, south of Drumnadrochit, to get a first-hand look at the complex rock slope stabilisation works being carried out by BEAR Scotland with Forest and Land Scotland as part of a rolling programme of works.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.inverness-courier.co.uk\/news\/transport\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Transport news<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.inverness-courier.co.uk\/news\/election-2021\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Politics news<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Earlier this summer, over 11,000m\u00b2 of rock netting was installed to mitigate against potential rock falls.<\/p>\n<p>BEAR Scotland are conducting further investigations on slopes to inform future mitigation measures that will help protect the road and improve resilience of the network.<\/p>\n<p>Ms Hyslop said: \u201cWe know climate change is having a greater impact on our transport networks in Scotland with warmer, wetter weather affecting ground conditions, and it\u2019s vital we ensure our trunk roads remain safe, resilient and adapted to deal with these challenges.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis joint project between BEAR Scotland and Forest and Land Scotland is an excellent example of that work, stabilising the slope at a key point of the A82 and ensuring we do all we can to keep the road safe and operating freely.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur trunk road network is a vital asset and that is why the Scottish Government is investing \u00a3714 million this budgetary year to ensure it continues to provide important connectivity for people and businesses across the country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Euan Scott, BEAR Scotland\u2019s north west unit representative, said: \u201cWe were delighted to welcome the Cabinet Secretary and share the progress being made across this important site.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur teams are committed to delivering long-term improvements to infrastructure that serves road users, local communities and visitors to the north west of Scotland.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>    Do you want to respond to this article?
