This figure represents a 7.8% increase in passengers and a 7.7% rise in operations compared to the same month last year.

This growth also made it the fastest-growing major airport in Spain in July, outpacing Barcelona and Madrid by a significant margin.

Back on the Costa del Sol, the total of 2,866,642 passengers passing through the terminal last month has set a new benchmark, as did the 19,814 aircraft movements recorded. Within this figure, 2,864,665 passengers travelled on commercial flights, with 478,814 flying on domestic routes, an 11.9% increase, and 2,385,851 using international connections, up 7.3%.

As usual, the British market dominated the international figures with 676,296 passengers, far ahead of other key markets such as Germany with 204,219, the Netherlands with 162,377, France with 160,610, Ireland with 139,482 and Italy with 135,882.

In terms of flight movements, 19,470 of July’s operations were commercial services. Domestic flights accounted for 4,038 of these, up 12.7%, while international flights numbered 15,432, an increase of 7.2%.

Two Sundays stood out as record-breakers. On July 13, the airport reached its highest ever number of operations in a single day with 689 flights. On July 27, a new peak was set for passenger numbers in a day, with 98,949 people passing through the terminal.

Given these incredible numbers, it’s no surprise that plans for expansion are already moving forward, with a €1.5 billion investment from the central government to increase capacity to 36 million passengers.

So far in 2025, the airport has handled 15,261,324 passengers and 107,248 flights between January and July. These figures reflect a 7.8% increase in passenger traffic and an 8.1% rise in operations compared to the same period last year.

Malaga’s figures also contribute to a record summer for the wider region. Across Andalucía, 22,464,983 passengers were recorded between January and July, a 6.4% increase year on year. In July alone, airports in the community welcomed 3,918,655 travellers, 5.5% more than the same month in 2024, with Malaga and Sevilla both setting new monthly records.

Image: Archive

 article_detail

OR

you can sign up to our FREE weekly roundup!

Read some of our recent bulletins:

Discount Special Offer subscription:

36.95€ for 48 Editor’s Weekly News Roundup bulletins!

Please CLICK THE BUTTON to subscribe.

(List price 3 months 12 Bulletins)

Read more stories from around Spain:

Date Published: 13/08/2025 The Costa del Sol base handled almost 2.9 million passengers in July, with Brits leading…

[5312
2000,299,104
0":"post-342534","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-spain","8":"tag-eu","9":"tag-europe","10":"tag-spain
["GET
