Leeds United\u2019s<\/a> capture of Dominic Calvert-Lewin<\/a> on a free transfer is due to be announced in due course, and there\u2019s a debate unfolding about what he brings to the table.<\/strong><\/p>\n

United\u2019s Premier League campaign gets underway in less than a week and attacking arrivals are on the horizon for Daniel Farke.<\/p>\n

A lot of work needs to be done between now and deadline day, but the 49ers have at least appeared to have one forward through the doors in Dominic Calvert-Lewin.<\/p>\n

The Athletic\u2019s David Ornstein<\/a> revealed on Wednesday morning that Leeds had agreed a deal to bring Calvert-Lewin to Elland Road on a free transfer<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Having announced his departure from Everton after nine years at the club back in June, Calvert-Lewin has been without a club amidst links to several, including interest from newly-promoted rivals Sunderland.<\/p>\n

A medical is due to take place imminently for the 28-year-old England international ahead of a move to LS11.<\/p>\n

\u201cOn their day\u201d \u2013 Alan Pardew believes Leeds United arrival Dominic Calvert-Lewin is as good as Viktor Gyokeres <\/p>\n

Leeds\u2019 opening three games of the season see them face multiple sides that have heavily invested into their attacks, first Calvert-Lewin\u2019s former employers Everton, and then Arsenal off the back of their \u00a363.5million<\/a> Viktor Gyokeres deal, and \u00a352million<\/a> spent on Noni Madueke.<\/p>\n

Gyokeres is expected to hit the heights in the Premier League goalscoring charts after a ridiculous two-year spell at Sporting CP where he bagged 97 goals and 28 assist in 102 games.<\/p>\n

Despite the Swede\u2019s formidable record, experienced former Premier League manager Alan Pardew believes Calvert-Lewin\u2019s best performances would be as good as Gyokeres\u2019.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it\u2019s, you know, as we speak here on TalkSPORT, and we\u2019re sort of saying, \u2018Oh, Gyokeres is better,\u2019 but actually, on their day, on their day, there\u2019s not much between them, if you know what I mean,\u201d Pardew explained on talkSPORT (6\/7)<\/a> amidst both strikers being linked to Manchester United.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf Calvert-Lewin has a day, and Gyokeres has a day, then very similar. But, of course, the consistency level of Calvert-Lewin, you know, the fact that he\u2019s not really on the pitch that often, you know, there\u2019s a big, big problem with him.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Dominic Calvert-Lewin will be a success at Leeds United IF he can recapture peak form<\/p>\n

It\u2019s a slightly disingenuous comment from Pardew, as the difference between Gyokeres and Calvert-Lewin is obviously their consistency and availability.<\/p>\n

Calvert-Lewin has suffered from multiple injury issues since his peak under Carlo Ancelotti, but when he\u2019s on his game, he\u2019s unplayable.<\/p>\n

Having a focal point striker is what Leeds are crying out for, and if Leeds are able to get a consistent tune out of Calvert-Lewin, they\u2019ve got a bargain.<\/p>\n

However, the 28-year-old has to go against what he\u2019s shown in the past three seasons to be a real hit at Elland Road.<\/p>\n
