The first explores the historical backdrop through two key sites in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.archdaily.com\/tag\/tirana\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tirana<\/a>. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.archdaily.com\/911980\/skanderbeg-square-51n4e?ad_source=search&amp;ad_medium=projects_tab\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Skanderbeg Square<\/a>, long a stage for political authority, has undergone multiple spatial and symbolic transformations under different regimes, from its Austro-Hungarian and Italian incarnations to its monumental expansion during communist rule. Its 2017 redesign by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.archdaily.com\/office\/51n4e?ad_name=project-specs&amp;ad_medium=single\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">51N4E<\/a> pedestrianized the area with locally sourced materials and green zones, shifting its role from a space of state power to one of public engagement. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.archdaily.com\/1008619\/pyramid-of-tirana-mvrdv?ad_source=search&amp;ad_medium=projects_tab\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Pyramid of Tirana<\/a>, built in 1988 to honor dictator Enver Hoxha, has similarly transformed from a symbol of authoritarianism into a youth and technology center designed by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.archdaily.com\/office\/mvrdv?ad_name=project-specs&amp;ad_medium=single\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">MVRDV<\/a>, preserving its concrete shell while opening it to the city as a site for learning and creativity.
