{"id":343849,"date":"2025-08-14T12:34:12","date_gmt":"2025-08-14T12:34:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/343849\/"},"modified":"2025-08-14T12:34:12","modified_gmt":"2025-08-14T12:34:12","slug":"vita-group-tables-plans-for-co-living-scheme-at-glasgows-met-tower-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/343849\/","title":{"rendered":"Vita Group tables plans for co-living scheme at Glasgow\u2019s Met Tower | News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Vita Group has acquired Glasgow\u2019s famous Met Tower, with plans to turn the building into homes for co-living.<\/p>\n<p>The developer said it wants to apply its \u201cUnion\u201d co-living concept to the site following the use of the model on a 1,600-home development in Manchester.<\/p>\n<p>The news comes a year after the site\u2019s former owner, Bruntwood Scitech, scrapped plans designed by architect Cooper Cromar to turn the 14-storey building into offices.<\/p>\n<p>Completed in 1964, the grade B-listed Met Tower is a prominent landmark in Glasgow city centre, positioned directly behind George Square and known since 2014 for a pink covering on its facade emblazoned with the slogan \u201cPeople Make Glasgow\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"picture\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Met Tower\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/2010298_mettower_414565.jpg\"  loading=\"eager\" class=\"lazyloaded\" width=\"1000\" height=\"667\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Vita Group said it wants to to turn the building, which has now been vacant for 10 years, into a \u201cthriving new community of city centre professionals\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The firm\u2019s Union concept offers apartments of various sizes with shared, communal facilities. The Union Manchester scheme, which opened this year, includes co-working areas, a residents\u2019 bar, wellness facilities and lounges.<\/p>\n<p>Vita said it was working up detailed plans for the Met Tower, which would go out to consultation \u201cas as possible\u201d.\u00a0The proposals are said to include creating \u201chigh-quality communal spaces\u201d, improving connections between existing and new structures, and the surrounding streets.<\/p>\n<p>Glasgow council leader Susan Aitken said the firm\u2019s acquisition of the building was \u201cfantastic news for the future of a listed Glasgow landmark\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>She added: \u201cVita\u2019s plans will bring what is an emerging accommodation concept to Glasgow, one that\u2019s been successful elsewhere and which can meet the needs of many younger residents.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen it first opened in the early 1960s, the Met Tower was a symbol of a new and modern Glasgow.
