{"id":344196,"date":"2025-08-14T15:35:19","date_gmt":"2025-08-14T15:35:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/344196\/"},"modified":"2025-08-14T15:35:19","modified_gmt":"2025-08-14T15:35:19","slug":"worlds-tallest-cinema-in-glasgows-could-close-any-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/344196\/","title":{"rendered":"World&#8217;s tallest cinema in Glasgow&#8217;s could &#8216;close any day&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n  A member of the team, who\u00a0wished to remain anonymous, told The Glasgow Times\u00a0it &#8220;will definitely be closing.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  They said: &#8220;It was\u00a0shocking, but we always knew that Cineworld was having issues.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;I mean, we had had so many warnings that we were getting shut down, multiple times\u00a0a year,\u00a0we were told we were getting shut down.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;But when we got that e-mail through, it\u00a0was the first one that was so separate from any other issue.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;So we knew pretty much the minute we got this e-mail that we were like, yeah, we&#8217;re done for.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  We<a href=\"https:\/\/www.glasgowtimes.co.uk\/news\/scottish-news\/25337774.worlds-tallest-cinema-glasgow-closed-down\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u00a0reported last<\/a> month\u00a0that the world&#8217;s tallest cinema in Glasgow\u00a0was at risk of closure after\u00a0an email was sent to staff.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <img   style=\"width: 100%;\"\/>World&#8217;s tallest cinema in Glasgow&#8217;s staff speak out amid closure fears (Image: Newsquest)\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  READ MORE:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.glasgowtimes.co.uk\/news\/scottish-news\/25337774.worlds-tallest-cinema-glasgow-closed-down\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">World&#8217;s tallest cinema in Glasgow could be &#8216;closed down&#8217;\u00a0<\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  READ MORE:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.glasgowtimes.co.uk\/news\/scottish-news\/25349049.petition-launched-save-worlds-tallest-cinema-glasgow\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Petition launched to save world&#8217;s tallest cinema in Glasgow\u00a0<\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The blow comes\u00a0despite campaigner Andrew Hamilton launching a\u00a0petition last month, after learning that the iconic cinema\u2014which stands at 200 feet tall\u2014was under threat.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Unfortunately for staff and fans of the establishment, it appears it will be shutting its doors.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Despite the shock, the staff said that &#8220;the managers\u00a0were so accommodating.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  One manager &#8220;was phoning everyone who wasn&#8217;t in that day, and I thought that was really quite sweet.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  They continued: &#8220;As soon as they know things they want to tell us.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;It hurts me to even talk about them, people with kids and people who&#8217;ve been there since it opened, and I really genuinely worry for them.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;I know there&#8217;s a lot of talk right now about what&#8217;s going to happen afterwards, whether there&#8217;ll be redundancy\u00a0pay or if we&#8217;re going to get more time.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  READ MORE:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.glasgowtimes.co.uk\/news\/20713306.story-cineworld-glasgow-worlds-tallest-cinema\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The story of Cineworld in Glasgow, the world&#8217;s tallest cinema\u00a0<\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  And the staff member said that\u00a0the cinema, which boasts 18 screens, is &#8220;definitely going to close.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The opinion was that &#8220;if they want the building back, they&#8217;re going to take it back&#8221;.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  They said: &#8220;We do know for a fact now it is shutting, but we don&#8217;t know at all when we&#8217;ve been told many times we don&#8217;t have an exact date, so really it could be any day now.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  They said that the\u00a0uncertainty is &#8220;a very emotional thing for everybody in the building.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;Everyone&#8217;s a bit down the dumps.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  They say that many of the staff are very close friends and have &#8220;some great connections&#8221; in the building, and admitted that &#8220;it&#8217;s going to be hard.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  There&#8217;s a hopeful resilience among the staff, they say, though: &#8220;We&#8217;re getting through it and everyone&#8217;s really positive.
