{"id":344354,"date":"2025-08-14T17:02:18","date_gmt":"2025-08-14T17:02:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/344354\/"},"modified":"2025-08-14T17:02:18","modified_gmt":"2025-08-14T17:02:18","slug":"walton-man-takes-on-26-mile-challenge-to-help-prevent-male-suicide","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/344354\/","title":{"rendered":"Walton man takes on 26-mile challenge to help prevent male suicide"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A local man is gearing up for a huge challenge to raise awareness and funds for male suicide prevention \u2013 and he\u2019s inviting the public to join him.<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday 13 September 2025, Paul Growney, Chief Executive of Kirkby-based care provider Caring Connections, will walk 26 miles from Southport to Otterspool wearing a weighted vest to raise awareness and funds for male suicide prevention. <\/p>\n<p>The trek is part of the Lightbody Health Carry That Weight Challenge, organised alongside Brian Lightbody from Lightbody Health CIC, now in its fifth year.<\/p>\n<p>The weight is symbolic \u2013 representing the often-hidden emotional load carried by people affected by suicide. You don\u2019t need to wear a vest to take part, but Paul is asking for willing walkers to help raise donations for James\u2019 Place, a Liverpool-based charity providing free, life-saving therapy for men in suicidal crisis. <\/p>\n<p>James\u2019 Place offers face-to-face sessions in a welcoming, non-clinical setting, with centres in Liverpool, London and Newcastle.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Paul said:<\/strong> \u201cThis challenge is about shining a light on the issue and raising money to support the vital work James\u2019 Place do for men in crisis across Merseyside.
