In these areas, girls have done worse than last year, while boys have held steady or improved.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">In the five subjects which saw the biggest percentage increase in students (excluding smaller subjects) girls\u2019 performance dipped by 1.1 percentage points overall, while boys\u2019 performance increased by 0.4. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">If girls had maintained their grades from last year in these subjects, they would have drawn level with boys overall.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"A graphic showing the relative performance of boys and girls in A-level subjects including maths, physics and chemistry\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/bfd9fa92-babd-4536-8365-10c13360b308.png.webp.webp\"  width=\"1601\" height=\"1660\" class=\"ssrcss-11yxrdo-Image edrdn950\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Chemistry saw the biggest gap between girls\u2019 and boys\u2019 top grades in the five subjects seen in the chart above, at 5.2 percentage points in favour of boys.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Economics, where girls outperform boys, saw a fall in grades for both genders.
