A number of Bristol brides have been left without a wedding venue following the news that a South Bristol social club has closed.<\/p>\n

After days of speculation around the future of the Bedminster<\/a> Down Ex Service Club, located in Winford Grove, a post on the social club\u2019s Facebook<\/a> page confirmed the news that the venue would be closing with immediate effect.<\/p>\n

The message, which was posted by \u2018anonymous participant\u2019 <\/a>on Thursday (April 17) said: “With regret, the Bedminster<\/a> Down Ex Service Club will be closing as of 11pm on Thursday 17th April.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe would like to thank all of our members and guests for their continued support throughout the years.”<\/p>\n

The news of the closure was met with dismay by the community and especially those who have events booked at the centre – including a number of devastated brides.<\/p>\n

Dozens of comments were left under the post – including many who had booked their wedding reception at the venue who were caught completely unaware by the announcement.<\/p>\n

One Facebook user said in the comments under the post: “Wrong how this has been put on social media before considering the bookings people have made for parties and wedding receptions.”<\/p>\n

Another said: “It\u2019s so unprofessional my friend has paid in full, this also includes a returnable deposit, for her evening wedding party in June she\u2019s organised a band and a buffet.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe management committee hasn’t let her know she had to see it on social media. That’s disgusting.”<\/p>\n

One lady whose wedding reception is booked to be held there in the summer said: “Is this legit as I’m supposed to be having my wedding reception there in July.”<\/p>\n

Another facing the same problem said: “Is this true? I have my wedding reception there in May. Invites, coach hire and catering all going there.”<\/p>\n

Another said they had fond memories at the club saying: “Feeling nostalgic about the whole situation. Let\u2019s hope someone can make this building \/club come back to life.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe believe it will in time. Thank you for great times and great social friends.”<\/p>\n

One has called it the end of an era stating: “So sad end of an era with many great memories of years gone by from working up there when I was at school to later years as well.”<\/p>\n

The Bedminster Down Ex Service Club has been contacted for comment.<\/p>\n
