Photo: Ascot Racecourse\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/1755248711_620_hugh-bowman.jpg\" style=\"float:right; margin:6px 8px; width:50%\"\/><strong>GB:<\/strong> There was an unhappy aftermath to the Shergar Cup when four overseas riders who participated in the annual jockeys\u2019 competition were handed a total of 32 days in suspensions for misuse of the whip at Ascot on Saturday [August 9].<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hugh Bowman<\/strong>, forever associated with the legendary Winx, won the Silver Saddle as the meeting\u2019s most successful rider. However, he was banned for 12 days for a variety of misdemeanours on Shergar Cup Challenge runner-up La Pulga.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thoroughbredracing.com\/articles\/6672\/hugh-bowman-industry-driven-financial-dollar-s-not-where-heart\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">What They&#8217;re Thinking: Hugh Bowman \u2013 The industry is driven by the financial dollar \u2026 but that\u2019s not where the heart is<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Italian champion <strong>Dario di Tocco<\/strong> and Hong Kong-based <strong>Karis Teetan<\/strong> were both hit with eight-day bans, while Indian rider <strong>Suraj Narredu<\/strong>, whose celebrations after scoring on Fireblade lit up Ascot, misses four days for breaching whip rules in another race. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.racingpost.com\/news\/britain\/four-shergar-cup-jockeys-banned-for-a-combined-32-days-after-breaching-whip-rules-aZwSn6E2BJC5\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">More here<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Sword Dancer renamed in honor of Christophe Clement<\/p>\n<p><strong>USA: <\/strong>The Sword Dancer Stakes, won last weekend by Godolphin\u2019s El Cordobes, has been renamed in honor of the late Christophe Clement, who won the G1 event a record five times.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Beginning in 2026, the $750,000 event will be known as the Christophe Clement Turf. The veteran trainer, who secured his fifth Sword Dancer win last year with Far Bridge, died in May aged 59 following a battle with metastatic uveal melanoma, a rare cancer of the eye. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nyra.com\/saratoga\/news\/g1-sword-dancer-to-be-renamed-christophe-clement-turf-in-2026\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">More here<\/a><\/p>\n<p>French Derby winner Camille Pissarro retired after injury<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Camille Pissarro (Ryan Moore) after winning the Prix du Jockey Club. Photo: Sandra Scherning \/ focusonracing.com\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/camille-pissarro-010625_6.jpg\" style=\"float:right; margin:6px 8px; width:50%\"\/><strong>Ireland:<\/strong> Prix du Jockey Club (French Derby) winner Camille Pissarro has been retired owing to an injury sustained on his most recent outing in the Coral-Eclipse Stakes at Sandown Park.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCamille Pissarro pulled a shoe at Sandown and was quite sore afterwards,\u201d explained trainer Aidan O\u2019Brien, in a statement issued on Wednesday [August 13]. \u201cWe had him x-rayed, and a fissure fracture was found in his fetlock. The decision was then made to retire him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A son of Wootton Bassett, Camille Pissarro was a dual G1 winner in France, having also landed the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere on Arc weekend as a two-year-old. <a href=\"https:\/\/coolmore.com\/farms\/ballydoyle\/news\/camille-pissarro-retires\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">More here<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Thorpedo Anna to race on after Hill \u2019n\u2019 Dale buy half-share<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Thorpedo Anna: half-share sold.
