Universal has shared an update on its proposed theme park resort near Bedford, UK, stating that more than 18,000 people have expressed interest in future job opportunities.<\/p>\n
\u201cSince announcing our intent to proceed with this transformative project, subject to receiving the relevant planning consent approvals, strong interest and enthusiasm continues \u2014 including over 18,000 local residents, around 80 percent of whom live in Bedford or the surrounding regions, registering to receive job information, and around 2,000 suppliers expressing interest in working with us,\u201d says the August 2025 update on the project website<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n \u201cWe are excited about the significant opportunities our planned project presents and remain fully committed to ensuring our SDO application is thoroughly vetted.\u201d<\/p>\n Consultation underway<\/p>\n A multibillion-pound deal was agreed for Universal\u2019s resort in Bedfordshire in April. The park was first announced in December 2023 after Universal purchased a 476-acre parcel of land in the county.<\/p>\n In late June, Universal submitted a request<\/a><\/strong> to the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) for planning permission, seeking to issue a Special Development Order (SDO). Last month, the UK government launched an open consultation<\/a><\/strong> on the plans, which will close at midday on 31 August.<\/p>\n Universal is seeking consent for an \u201centertainment resort complex featuring a world-class theme park with several themed lands, visitor accommodation, as well as a range of retail, dining and entertainment uses.\u2019<\/p>\n Earlier in the year, the UK government pledged to spend nearly \u00a3500 million on transport and infrastructure improvements<\/a><\/strong> to support the development. The planned destination is expected to\u00a0generate nearly \u00a350 billion<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0for the economy during construction as well as the first 20 years of operation, according to an economic impact analysis commissioned by Universal Destinations & Experiences.<\/p>\n
