sharply in June as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/donald-trump\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/donald-trump\/\">Donald Trump\u2019s<\/a> restrictive trade policies impacted the State\u2019s transatlantic trade.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The latest trade figures from the Central Statistics Office (CSO) show the value of exports from Ireland to the US dropped by almost 60 per cent between May and June, falling from \u20ac10.8 billion to \u20ac4.4 billion.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The June figure was also down by almost a quarter on the same month last year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Exports of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/pharma\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/pharma\/\">pharmaceuticals<\/a> to the US surged in the first quarter of 2025 as companies stockpiled product in the US ahead of Mr Trump\u2019s so-called Liberation Day <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/us-tariffs\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/us-tariffs\/\">tariffs<\/a> announcement on April 2nd.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The latest figures reflect a levelling off in that surge.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph b-it-article-body__interstitial-link\">[\u00a0<a aria-label=\"Open related story\" class=\"c-link\" tariff, but the 15 per cent blanket rate still marks a step-change from the trading conditions of a year ago,\u201d Alex Deaton, junior dealer at global financial services firm Ebury,<b> <\/b>said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cEven with firms now benefitting from some certainty, the reality is a far more restrictive environment, one that is going to have knock on consequences for Irish businesses and the economy,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The products that  accounted for the largest share of exports to the US were chemicals and related items at \u20ac3.2 billion, miscellaneous manufactured articles at \u20ac622 million and machinery and transport equipment at \u20ac412 million, representing 72.3 per cent, 14.3 per cent and 9.5 per cent of total exports to the US in June.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The (unadjusted) value of total goods exports (to all export markets) increased by \u20ac801 million (4.8 per cent) to \u20ac17.5 billion in June compared with same month last year. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Exports for April, May, and June, which comprised the second quarter,  were valued at \u20ac63.1 billion, up \u20ac9 billion (+16.5 per cent) compared with the same period of last year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">However, the quarterly total was down \u20ac26.1 billion (-29.2 per cent) on the first three months of 2025 because of the volatile US trade.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The CSO noted, however, that the value of goods exports for the first six months of 2025 was still up by 41 per cent at \u20ac152 billion compared with the same period of last year (\u20ac108 billion).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Irish goods exports to
