\n A supplier is to be hired to roll out the charging infrastructure, which is to take about\u00a0five years to install.\n<\/p>\n

\n There are to be 3150 new charge points across Glasgow City, East Dunbartonshire<\/a>, East Renfrewshire, Inverclyde<\/a>, North Lanarkshire<\/a>, Renfrewshire, South Lanarkshire<\/a>, and West Dunbartonshire council areas.\n<\/p>\n

\n Sites are being chosen and would include local authority car parks as well as streets, according to a council paper.\n<\/p>\n

\n Glasgow City Region Cabinet, which is made up of the eight councils, will receive an update on the plans next week.\n<\/p>\n

\n The cost of the installation and equipment is to be met by private sector funding, with a small amount of grant money from Transport Scotland<\/a>.\n<\/p>\n

\n A council paper said the principles of the project \u201caim to deliver a just transition for the region, delivering equitable, affordable, and accessible electric vehicle charging infrastructure, with a recognition of the need for all residents to access electric vehicle charge points close to their home, as well as providing a comprehensive network that supports journey and destination charging.\u201d\n<\/p>\n

\n It is understood the 600-plus existing charge points across the area will be transferred over as part of the new system.\n<\/p>\n
