KDDI will lead a collaboration of ten domestic institutions in joint research to build an \u201cAI-quantum common platform,\u201d which is intended to accelerate the industrial use of quantum computers and lower the barrier to entry for users.<\/p>\n<p>The joint research includes <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kddi-research.jp\/english\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">KDDI Research, Inc.<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.j-ij.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Jij Inc.<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/qunasys.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">QunaSys Inc.<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aist.go.jp\/index_en.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST)<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.waseda.jp\/top\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Waseda University<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.keio.ac.jp\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Keio University<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.osaka-u.ac.jp\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Osaka University<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shibaura-it.ac.jp\/en\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Shibaura Institute of Technology<\/a>. The initiative will utilize the quantum-classical hybrid computing testbed (<a href=\"https:\/\/quantumcomputingreport.com\/nvidia-and-aist-launch-abci-q-supercomputer-for-hybrid-quantum-ai-research\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ABCI-Q<\/a>) established at <a href=\"https:\/\/unit.aist.go.jp\/g-quat\/index_en.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">AIST\u2019s Global Research Center for Business Development of Quantum and AI Fusion Technologies (G-QuAT)<\/a>. Technical deliverables include the development of middleware for optimal allocation of computing resources, a platform that uses an API to abstract quantum computer functions, and the development of operation technology for quantum computers, including methods for fault detection and management.<\/p>\n<p>This initiative aligns with the Japanese government\u2019s goals to promote the social implementation and industrialization of quantum technology. The project is designed to address barriers to market growth, such as the need for specialized user expertise, by developing a platform that can be used intuitively without specialized quantum knowledge.
