{"id":348247,"date":"2025-08-16T04:13:22","date_gmt":"2025-08-16T04:13:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/348247\/"},"modified":"2025-08-16T04:13:22","modified_gmt":"2025-08-16T04:13:22","slug":"charity-in-direct-action-to-get-homeless-into-accommodation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/348247\/","title":{"rendered":"Charity in direct action to get homeless into accommodation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n  Colin McInnes, chair of Homeless Project Scotland, led the people into the offices in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.glasgowtimes.co.uk\/topics\/merchant-city\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Merchant City<\/a> after he said they had been refused the right to make a homeless application.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  He said people are being told on a nightly basis that there is no accommodation and to stay overnight at the charity\u2019s shelter in Glassford Street.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  READ NEXT:<a href=\"https:\/\/www.glasgowtimes.co.uk\/news\/25393926.union-jobs-warning-takeover-involving-glasgow-bakeries\/?rel=cl_mra\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Union in jobs warning over takeover involving Glasgow bakeries<\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  They are then told to go in the morning to the Connect Hub to make an application.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Mr McInnes said people are being left waiting for hours and no application is taken, leaving them to return to the shelter for a second night.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  He took six people to the offices and explained the situation to the staff.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The staff took details of the people concerned, while the council&#8217;s head of homeless services, Jim McBride, attended a lengthy meeting with Mr McInnes.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Mr McInnes said he was forced to take direct action to confront the failings in a system, leaving people with nowhere to turn.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  He\u00a0said all six of those who attended had no accommodation they were aware of when they entered the offices.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <strong>READ NEXT:<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.glasgowtimes.co.uk\/news\/25387216.update-plans-congestion-charge-motorists-glasgow\/?rel=cl_mra\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Update on plans for congestion charge on motorists in Glasgow<\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The council, meanwhile, said it was disappointed by the action taken by the charity.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Mr McInnes said: \u201cHomeless Project Scotland took direct action to demand that applications were taken. We had an assurance that they are willing to work with us to fix this issue.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  He added: \u201cWe have asked to be recognised in our own right and not to be forced to go somewhere else, where they are not being accommodated.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cIt is about recognising the individual choice of support by someone and not being told they must go somewhere else.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cSome people have been waiting more than three days.
