David Moyes will be looking to utilise Jack Grealish\u2019s versatility this season after hinting that the 29-year-old could play in several positions.<\/strong><\/p>\n Speaking to the media ahead of their Premier League curtain-raiser against Leeds United, Moyes said, \u201cI think Jack can play in several positions. I think he can play in midfield, as well, He doesn\u2019t give the ball away very often, but my aim is to get Jack in positions where he will get goals and assists for us.<\/p>\n \u201cLook, it\u2019s a big challenge for Jack, as well. I\u2019m looking forward to see how he responds to it.\u201d<\/p>\n When asked whether the star signing will be seen donning the Everton shirt at Elland Road, Moyes joked, \u201cHe looks the same, big calves.<\/p>\n \u201cYou need to turn up and find out [whether he starts]. That\u2019s what everyone needs to do.\u201d<\/p>\n If Grealish<\/a> does end up getting the manager\u2019s nod to start, he will be looking to replicate the performance from his previous trip to Yorkshire, where he assisted two of Manchester City\u2019s goals.<\/p>\n The Scottish manager also spoke about his former player Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who has now joined Leeds United on a free transfer after his contract expired with Everton<\/a>.<\/p>\n In the pre-match press conference, Moyes confirmed that the striker\u2019s financial demands proved to be \u201ctoo much\u201d for the club and it was opted to let him go.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m pleased for Dom, I didn\u2019t really get a chance to work deeply with him; he picked up an injury, I think I had one or two games with him,\u201d Moyes said.<\/p>\n \u201cWe found the financials just too much at the time, so we just had to move on. I think he’s been decent at right back – when he’s played centre half he’s looked awful. His positional sense is horrific in the middle.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n \n To be fair, James, O’Brien really was decent as a RB when Moyes played him there.<\/p>\n As a CB he seems to be anything between (a) Champions League quality and (b) your assessment of him as being awful. Personally, I think he’s neither (yet).<\/p>\n As a long term RB though, he is a weird solution. I heard some commentators say he provided an unorthodox attacking outlet because we could hit a big diagonal to him and he’d obviously win the header against a winger \/ conventional full-back.<\/p>\n With the ball he’s not bad either. But like I say, a weird solution as a “proper” RB. <\/p>\n <\/p>\n \n James I agree to an extent.<\/p>\n He is certainly no Tark’s nor Jarred yet at CB but he does a solid job at RB in the Kyle Walker mould i.e. quick and aggressive and gets up and down the pitch.<\/p>\n Having said that I really like the look of the Norwich RB who I watched for 90 minutes the other day and his passing and movement was top class.<\/p>\n I think the RB and RW choices need to be complimentary in the Baines-Pienaar way although right now I would settle for a body for the RW slot. <\/p>\n <\/p>\n \n James,<\/p>\n Jake has performed very well at right back. He also did well at centre back.<\/p>\n A few wobbles occasionally in both positions, but name me a player who doesn’t have them.<\/p>\n I think describing his positional sense as horrific, although a personal view, is a bit harsh from what I’ve watched. <\/p>\n <\/p>\n \n I actually like O’Brien as a right back at the moment. He can defend very well, because he is a cb by trade he can help the shape of the team morph somewhat when either in or out of possession, and he’s a massive physical presence and is decent in the opposition box too. Plus, being much bigger than the traditional right back, he adds more height to what is already a big team when conceding a corner. <\/p>\n I don’t feel right back is the priority several are making it out to be. <\/p>\n Just an opinion! <\/p>\n <\/p>\n \n \n For Moyes to say there are higher priorities than RB worries me. O’Brien did look good there, but is that really a sustainable plan? Our recognised RBs are Seamus and Patto… Plus O’Brien is surely a better option for covering Branthwaite (or Tark) than Keane? I agree O’Brien didn’t look wonderful at CB in those friendlies, but Keane’s lack of pace makes it very easy to hurt us. And that’s before you factor in how often he drops a clanger. <\/p>\n <\/p>\n \n \n I think Moyes just means they will sort out a RW as top priority and RB after that <\/p>\n <\/p>\n \n I\u0092ve just come back from Turkey, Paul K, and one of the things I found most depressing, was that with most people now using plastic, even the Turks, don\u0092t really want to haggle anymore.<\/p>\n I also spoke to a few who had complete disdain for what they referred to as a very dangerous refugee problem, but I was more worried for the bored shopkeepers, who just don\u0092t seem to have the same energy anymore.<\/p>\n They reminded me of myself with regards the football, because since the introduction of VAR, amongst other things, I just can\u0092t seem to get as excited anymore.<\/p>\n It\u0092s the same everywhere apparently because according to the Turks, it was only invented to help Galatasary, win the league!<\/p>\n <\/p>\n \n \n DCL has found his level. And by ‘us’ I mean a very collective us. <\/p>\n Whether you agree or not, he might believe he was played up front in some dreadfully defensive teams, mismanaged by the medical team, rushed back into the side repeatedly, taunted by fans for his fashion choices, had his mental health publicly questioned by his manager, and had his wife abused by online trolls.<\/p>\n Maybe he just wanted to get out. I wouldn’t have believed it because he never said anything but good things about Everton and Evertonians, but leaving without a deal agreed elsewhere does smack of a guy being prepared to take his chances rather than stay.<\/p>\n The glee from some fans in him struggling for a team and then turning up at a newly promoted team isn’t a good look, in my opinion. And shows a lack of any kind of collective self reflection.<\/p>\n He’s made the decision to move on and show some class in his words, and a portion of our fans would be well advised to do the same. <\/p>\n <\/p>\n \n So, let\u0092s have a reality check.<\/p>\n I\u0092ll happily take a draw at Elland Road. Because we’re going for the good ‘uns, thank you. No more desperate punts like El Ghazi and Rondon and Maupay and Lindstrom and Broja. No more bodies just to fill holes. <\/p>\n Let’s see what the process produces. <\/p>\n <\/p>\n \n Interesting that the confidence is still there about doing the necessary transfer business before the deadline in 16 days. <\/p>\n Transfers to bring in a right winger and right back are not nice to have. They would address serious gaps in the balance and depth of the squad – and it is clear Moyes feels the same way.<\/p>\n I can understand that it might be challenging to sign a creative and pacey right winger – they are sought after in the market. The offer of European football is an attraction factor. But it is really poor that we have failed to sign a right back and will rely on a centre-back and a 36 year old to start the season.<\/p>\n My guess is that we were confident in doing the Dibling deal at our valuation and spent too long trying to get the deal done in that financial framework. Now we have pivoted away to other targets, we are finding that other clubs have progressed with deals for these players.<\/p>\n it is unfortunately more likely that we will need to compromise on the quality of the player to fill these positions. Or we try to manage with what we have until January.<\/p>\n We could of course bid more for Dibling – go big or go home given our transfer strategy for the summer seems to have been constructed around that deal.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n \n \n Christine @46,

Could he do a job for us? Yes he’s better than, um, well,better than um, whoever we can rope in and play out of position, so yes he can do a job for us, but our great recruitment team will probably haggle, and try to reduce the fee and he’ll go elsewhere. <\/p>\n

Ernie I didn’t say DCL shouldn’t have left, souldnt have run his contract down, shouldn’t have carried s handbag or worn a skirt.
I said he had been badly advised.
In my opinion, he’s gone from us an established PL club( one fighting relagation year on year)
To Leeds ( one yo yoing year on year )

For years he has been the ONLY striker we have had and scored some beauts. His injury record in the past few is not great, but again, the pressure on him to return as the only forward was immense. It didn’t help, and probably contributed.
He is gone, Its the best thing for him and us, but he served us well. The stats might say one thing but they do not show the quality of the manager he was playing for, or the players around him that were supposed to provide chances. The strikers life is a game of averages, get three chances, score one. We were lucky to get single chances in most games under Dyche. Remember that? <\/p>\n
