If this has got you wistfully thinking about planning your own day trip from the city, we have some good news.\u00a0The country\u2019s most beautiful chocolate box villages have just been revealed by Independent Cottages<\/a>, and one is only an hour from the Big Smoke.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Cookham<\/strong> in Berkshire<\/a> has been named one of Independent Cottages\u2019 most beautiful English villages. How did the holiday booking site work out\u00a0its ranking? Well,\u00a0it analysed villages across England, taking into account their\u00a0number of listed historic buildings, oldest recorded existence, whether they\u2019re in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB)<\/a>, how many people searched for the village online, and how many TikTok posts they featured in.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Ranking at number 13 out of 43, according to the research Cookham dates back to\u00a043AD and is home to\u00a069 listed buildings. Its most searched for attraction is the Ferry Cookham, a riverside country pub and restaurant. The village had a search volume of\u00a01,300 and appeared in 700 TikToks.\u00a0<\/p>\n

And Cookham wasn\u2019t the only spot on the list within easy reach of the capital. Most of the ranking\u2019s top 10 were within two hours of London, with locations including Castle Combe<\/a> in Wiltshire,\u00a0West Sussex\u2019s<\/a> Bosham and Suffolk\u2019s Lavenham<\/a> making it into the top 10.\u00a0<\/p>\n
