People rushed to help a man after he was “deliberately driven at” in a Woolton<\/a> street. Merseyside Police<\/a> confirmed officers were called to Stonyhurst Road in Woolton<\/a> at around 11.45pm to reports that a man had been seriously injured when he was hit by a car.<\/p>\n People rushed to help the 47-year-old man, but after paramedics took him to hospital, he died from his injuries despite everyone’s best efforts.<\/p>\n A 41-year-old man from Liverpool was arrested at the scene and remains in custody. A large blue tent remained on the street on Saturday, April 19, with forensic officers continuing work.<\/p>\n People living on the street described hearing a “commotion” and the sound of screeching car brakes before a large group of people were seen in the middle of the road at around 11.30pm.<\/p>\n Detective Inspector Katie Coote said: \u201cOur investigation into this incident is in its very early stages, but it does appear the car was deliberately driven at the man.<\/p>\n \u201cDespite the best efforts of the people who came to his aid and those of paramedics, he sadly passed away in hospital.<\/p>\n \u201cOur thoughts remain with his family at this tragic time and specially trained officers are supporting them.<\/p>\n \u201cWe have launched an investigation into what happened and we have already arrested a suspect and seized the car we believe was involved.<\/p>\n \u201cOur officers are continuing to carry out inquiries at the scene and studying CCTV footage to establish the full circumstances.<\/p>\n \u201cI appeal to anyone who witnessed this incident and any residents living locally who might have CCTV showing the incident, to please get in touch.<\/p>\n \u201cEvery piece of information is vitally important to our investigation and could help us establish what happened so we can provide answers for his family.\u201d<\/p>\n Anyone who witnessed the collision or captured anything on CCTV or dashcam is asked to contact call 101 or DM @MerPolCC quoting log number 951 of 19th April.
