But on Friday, the Whites announced the signing of Dominic Calvert-Lewin on a free transfer.

Leeds United have needed attacking signings throughout the summer. Daniel Farke has stocked up pretty much every other position until returning his focus to attack in the last few weeks, having finally completed the deal to sign Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

On Friday, Leeds United announced the signing of Calvert-Lewin who was released by Everton at the end of last season. But with just him, Joel Piroe, and Lukas Nmecha as the first-team strikers, another addition seems necessary.

That’s especially true considering that Calvert-Lewin will need time to get up to speed having missed all pre-season, and also that the 28-year-old has a patchy injury record as well. And it’s long been reported that Rodrigo Muniz is a key target at Elland Road.

In fact, previous reports revealed that Muniz is Leeds United’s number one striker target for this summer.

Photo by Andrew Kearns – CameraSport via Getty ImagesMarco Silva makes Rodrigo Muniz claim amid Leeds United transfer rumours

The Premier League has gotten underway. On Friday night, Liverpool beat Bournemouth 4-2 in a thrilling opening game, whilst Muniz’s Fulham play Brighton away from home and Leeds United play Everton on Monday night. Speaking ahead of this weekend, Fulham boss Marco Silva was asked for an update on Muniz’s situation at Craven Cottage.

Silva refused to be drawn into whether or not the club has received bids for the Brazilian striker, whilst saying that the 23-year-old is in contention to play against Brighton.

Silva told the press: “Rodrigo is in contention for Saturday. Offers and bids we’ve received – I will not comment. I speak with him like any other player. He knows what I think about him, how important he is for our club. We will decide what is best for the club and Rodrigo.”

MORE LEEDS UNITED STORIES

Can Leeds United realistically sign Rodrigo Muniz?

Although Leeds have signed Calvert-Lewin on a free transfer, it is understood that Leeds United could be paying hefty wages for Calvert-Lewin, which could have an impact on the club’s summer transfer budget.

So whether or not Leeds can realistically afford Muniz now, knowing that they still need a new number 10 and a new winger, with Leeds United also trying to sign James Justin from Leicester City, remains to be seen.

And the deal for Muniz may look even more unlikely, knowing that Atalanta are growing in confidence of signing Muniz. Not only that, but it is reported that Muniz will prefer a move to Serie A this summer.

Whilst there are ongoing reports linking Muniz with a move to Leeds United, it certainly seems like the Brazilian is more likely to join an Italian club rather than Leeds United.

But Farke could surprise everyone and put a club record fee on the table to sign the striker. Whilst it could be a gamble, it would be an exciting and ambitious signing nonetheless.

Rodrigo Muniz has been linked with a move to Leeds United from Fulham all summer long.
