{"id":349263,"date":"2025-08-16T13:43:24","date_gmt":"2025-08-16T13:43:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/349263\/"},"modified":"2025-08-16T13:43:24","modified_gmt":"2025-08-16T13:43:24","slug":"prince-and-princess-of-wales-moving-to-their-forever-new-home","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/349263\/","title":{"rendered":"Prince and Princess of Wales moving to their \u2018forever\u2019 new home"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Prince of Wales will become the first monarch not to live in a palace or a castle when he succeeds his father as king, as he is set to move his family into a new \u201cforever home\u201d in Windsor.<\/p>\n<p>Prince William and his wife, the Princess of Wales, will relocate this year from Adelaide Cottage to the nearby Forest Lodge on the Windsor Great Park estate with their children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.<\/p>\n<p>Royal sources say the move will give the family a \u201cfresh start\u201d after a difficult three years in which Queen Elizabeth died and Kate and the King were diagnosed with cancer. Renovations at the grade II listed house have begun and will be funded by the couple. As at Adelaide Cottage, the Waleses will not have any live-in staff at Forest Lodge. <\/p>\n<p class=\"responsive__Paragraph-sc-1pktst5-0 gaEeqC\">The family first moved to Windsor from Kensington Palace in September 2022 and initially settled in the four-bedroom cottage, which is four miles from their new home, to try out the location.<\/p>\n<p class=\"responsive__Paragraph-sc-1pktst5-0 gaEeqC\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.com\/topic\/duchess-of-cambridge\" class=\"link__RespLink-sc-1ocvixa-0 csWvlP\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kate<\/a> began her recovery at Adelaide Cottage and has spoken of the benefits of being in the countryside. His annus horribilis last year cemented his approach, in which family came first and the school run was prioritised.<\/p>\n<p class=\"responsive__Paragraph-sc-1pktst5-0 gaEeqC\">\u2022 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.com\/article\/how-prince-william-will-reign-king-0zd3jcgv3\" class=\"link__RespLink-sc-1ocvixa-0 csWvlP\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>How Prince William will change the monarchy, by those close to him<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"responsive__Paragraph-sc-1pktst5-0 gaEeqC\">Friends say he used the time to think and to plan how he will reshape the institution he will one day lead, especially how to make sure it remains relevant and \u201cfit for purpose in the modern era\u201d. <\/p>\n<p class=\"responsive__Paragraph-sc-1pktst5-0 gaEeqC\">William particularly wants to look at the structure of the royal household at Buckingham Palace, which is expected to remain the effective headquarters of the monarchy even though it is now assumed that William will never live there. You can\u2019t imagine him saying, \u2018Great, let\u2019s move back to central London\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"responsive__Paragraph-sc-1pktst5-0 gaEeqC\">Buckingham Palace, which has been home to monarchs since 1837, is undergoing a \u00a3369 million refurbishment, which means that all state visits will take place at Windsor Castle until 2027. <\/p>\n<p class=\"responsive__Paragraph-sc-1pktst5-0 gaEeqC\">William and Kate will foot the bill for their move and the renovations of Forest Lodge, enabling them to avoid the sort of criticism that was directed at the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who initially spent \u00a32.5 million of taxpayer money revamping Frogmore Cottage. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.com\/article\/how-would-prince-harry-meghan-be-received-britain-5hqw0vcj2\" class=\"link__RespLink-sc-1ocvixa-0 csWvlP\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Harry and Meghan<\/a> later paid back the money before they were evicted by Charles when they stopped being working royals. <\/p>\n<p class=\"responsive__Paragraph-sc-1pktst5-0 gaEeqC\">Planning application for the work was lodged with the council in June.
