Spain is one of the most popular places for Britons to holiday in, offering sunny weather, great food and a vibrant culture. <\/p>\n

However, new data showed it is no longer the most sought-after destination for UK holidaymakers as they set their sights on other European cities. <\/p>\n

Amsterdam and Paris both proved more appealing to Britons, according to analysis of popular flight searches compiled by One Sure Insurance. <\/p>\n

It showed a surge in interest for European destinations such as Budapest, Krakow and Athens, with Amsterdam having the highest search overall.<\/p>\n

  7. Krakow – 11,000 searches<\/li>\n
  8. Milan – 9,700 searches<\/li>\n
  9. Istanbul – 9,300 searches<\/li>\n
  10. Athens – 7,100 searches<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Barcelona, Spain, dropped to third place on the list, and it was the only Spanish destination featured at all. The experts explained many people are looking elsewhere for their holidays. <\/p>\n

    A One Sure Insurance spokesperson said: \u201cWe\u2019re seeing a trend of more adventurous travellers who are looking to explore beyond the usual hotspots.<\/p>\n

    “While cities like Paris and Rome continue to dominate, there\u2019s an increasing interest in destinations that offer a unique blend of history, culture, and cost-effectiveness.”<\/p>\n

    In recent months and years, Britons have threatened to boycott Spain as anti-tourist protests have taken place<\/a> in parts of the country. <\/p>\n

    The experts explained this could be one of the reasons behind a drop in searches for Spanish destinations, and an increase in interest for other places.<\/p>\n

    The spokesperson added: \u201cBritons are looking to avoid over-tourism protests and are considering staycations as an alternative to travelling abroad. <\/p>\n

    “Seeing Edinburgh rise to fourth place reflects the growing appreciation for local heritage, too. <\/p>\n

    “Britons are moving beyond the usual beach holiday locations to the cities which offer not only history and culture, but also a fresh experience.\u201d<\/p>\n
