We reported earlier on the first comments Vladimir Putin made on US-Russia talks in Alaska (see post at 4.21pm).<\/p>\n
Now, the Russian president’s office has issued Putin’s full statement which he gave to senior officials.<\/p>\n
Here is the Kremlin leader’s full statement…<\/p>\n
I\u00a0asked you to\u00a0get into a\u00a0meeting to\u00a0inform you about the\u00a0outcomes of\u00a0our delegation’s visit to\u00a0Alaska, the\u00a0United States.<\/p>\n
I\u00a0would like to\u00a0note from the\u00a0outset that the\u00a0visit was timely and\u00a0quite useful.\u00a0<\/p>\n
We discussed our interactions in\u00a0virtually all their aspects with a\u00a0focus, of\u00a0course, on\u00a0achieving a\u00a0fair resolution of\u00a0the\u00a0Ukraine crisis.\u00a0<\/p>\n
We certainly had an\u00a0opportunity to\u00a0discuss the\u00a0origins and\u00a0causes of\u00a0this crisis, which we did. It is the\u00a0removal of\u00a0these root causes that must underlie the\u00a0settlement.<\/p>\n
We did not have direct talks at\u00a0this level for\u00a0a\u00a0long time. Let me reiterate: We had a\u00a0chance to\u00a0convey our position in\u00a0a\u00a0calm\u00a0 and\u00a0detailed manner.\u00a0<\/p>\n
We definitely respect the\u00a0US administration’s position which wants the\u00a0hostilities to\u00a0stop as\u00a0soon as\u00a0possible. So do we, and\u00a0we would like to\u00a0move forward with settling all issues by\u00a0peaceful means.<\/p>\n
The\u00a0conversation was very frank and\u00a0substantive which, in\u00a0my\u00a0view, moves us closer towards making necessary decisions.<\/p>\n
